Cam Newton Rumors: Anonymous NFL GM Says Former QB Panthers ‘Decline Is Evident’ | Bleacher Report | Instant News

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton aged 31 years and out of the season which made him only play two games because of injury.

He still wasn’t signed, and Albert Breer from Sports illustration The team suggested in the league believes that he is no longer the same midfielder who won the NFL MVP and led his team to the Super Bowl appearance.

“Not saying he can’t get back up,” said a general manager. “But the decline is clear.”

Breer assessed why Newton had not yet found a landing site at this offseason point and noted injury concerns – especially in an offseason with applicable travel restrictions and limited opportunities for team doctors to evaluate him – as well as the fact that “starting a quarterback and a reserve quarterback are two different jobs, with different job descriptions “has played a role.

While Newton is more talented with a much better resume than most, if not all, reserve quarterbacks in the league, having someone with a list of achievements in the quarterback space as a second string option can cause controversy over playing time.

However, it was surprising to see someone with a league MVP, Super Bowl appearance, three Pro Bowl selections, and Offensive Player of the Year looking for work in May.

Concerns about his health were fair after the 2019 campaign, but he also posted a number of pictures and videos of his practice on Instagram which certainly makes it look ready to return to the field.

During his last full season in 2018, Newton completed 67.9 percent of passes for 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while adding 488 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

He may not be the same version of himself that won the MVP in 2015, but it is a number that many teams will receive from the quarterback position. A clear belief in his setbacks, though, as well as remaining questions about his health, has led one quarterback to define a generation still looking for a team to call itself.
