Sri Lanka’s cricket will suspend the player’s contract which is charged with illegal drugs Cricket News | Instant News

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan cricket (SLC) plans to suspend the middle pacer contract Shehan Madushanka after he was arrested for possessing heroin.

SLC CEO Ashley de Silva said: “We have not been officially informed of this. He is a contracted player. We will take action to suspend his contract if he carries drug charges.”

Madushanka’s arrest was the first time a contracted player was returned due to drug charges.

The cricket player and his friend were arrested on May 23 for possession of heroin.

A judge in Kuliyapitiya in the northwestern province ordered him to be sent back until June 2.

The 25-year-old entered the international scene in early 2018 with an ODI hat-trick on his debut against Bangladesh, making it the fourth player in history one day to achieve that achievement.

His international appearance was limited to his debut ODI and two T20 international players, also against Bangladesh.
