Copperas Cove ISD raises 15,000 pounds of food for needy families | Instant News

COPPERAS COVE, TX – Through a district-wide collection, Copperas Cove ISD has raised about 15,000 pounds of food for families in need.

Schools partner together to support the annual Food for Families event, as well as see who can gather the most food.

This year, House Creek Elementary School brought home gold for the amount of food it raised. Fairview / Miss Jewell Elementary has won several times in the past for collecting the most pounds of food per capita based on student population.

Regina DeLaCoudray says that food drives give her the opportunity to brighten up one’s vacation.

“I just want to give back to the community. I was the single parent of two people who lived in low-income housing many years ago and knew their needs, ”said DeLaCoudray whose grandson goes to Williams / Ledger Elementary school. “My passion has always led me to give, but I don’t know where to start. So, God gave me the answer. When I picked up my grandson Christopher from school, I checked his backpack as usual and there was a letter. This explains the need for food donations to help the community. So after dropping her off to school the next morning, I went to the shop and got what the spirit guided. “

The Williams / Ledger Basic Food Collection for Families yields nearly 700 food items.

All donations will be donated to local soup kitchens.
