Cricket has been a men’s game since time immemorial. However, sport has seen a paradigm shift with an increase in competitiveness exponentially.
Crickets are often involved in fierce battles, once they enter the field of-late. Some confrontations have risen to epic proportions creating ugly displays for viewers who are tuned in to action.
Today, let’s look at the five ugly battles between cricket that have been documented on television:
1.) Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi
This news is one of the most popular television shows and has been carried out several rounds since the days of social media took over the lives of fans.
During the 2007 ODI Guwahati between mortal enemies India and Pakistan, Gambhir slashed Afridi towards the mid-on limit. A few words were exchanged before Afridi ended the next post, which was taken by Gambhir on one foot.
While taking a single, several explicit words were exchanged again between the two disputing with each other. What made Gambhir angry was that Afridi entered among Gambhir, while he tried to reach for wrinkles.
2.) Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli
Former teammates in Delhi and India, Gambhir and Kohli, competed in one of the IPL matches between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kohli was fired while in the top position in the air, which only managed to reach deep extra-cover. In excitement, Gambhir throwing violations at Kohli that doesn’t match the latter.
It’s not fun to see two Indians abuse each other while wearing their IPL T-shirts. Then, his team-mate in Delhi Rajat Bhatia asked Kohli to return to his break room, while the rest of the TRC team calmed their cruel leader.
3.) Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shahzad
This duel took place between former Pakistani teammates Riaz and Shahzad during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Quetta Gladiator and Peshawar Zalmi.
After rejecting Shahzad with delivery, Riaz extended his pleasure and the next thing that was seen live on TV was physical tension between the two players.
In the end, the players must intervene to separate the two nervous cricket players.
4.) Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja
Cricket fanatics have watched players from opposite sides face each other in the heat of the moment. However, the reason why this fight was interesting was because Raina and Jadeja fought on the ground representing the same side.
Raina dropped one of the catches of Jaddu bowling while playing against the West Indies. Jadeja, who struggled to get a goal during the series, expressed disappointment after Raina asked for a catch, but lost sight of the ball coming from the sky.
The reason that made Jaddu angry was because of that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in a better position to catch, but doesn’t try when Raina calls on him.
When finished, Jadeja walked quickly to Raina and had a bad fight with Raina. It was reported, during the confrontation, Jaddu told Raina that he was jealous of the young Kohli who was appointed captain in front of him, as the representative of MS Dhoni, who chose not to participate in the match.
Raina seemed to calm Jadeja, and the two walked towards the dressing after the end of the match, to resolve their differences.
5.) Ambati Rayudu and Harbhajan Singh
Another interesting but ugly example when players from the same team face each other at full speed is the battle between Rayudu and Bhajji.
Indians in Mumbai treat their troops like a big family, and family members will surely fight. It was during one of the matches at the IPL when Rayudu fielded in and acknowledged the limits of Bhajji bowling due to field errors.
Seeing the disaster, Bhajji might say something that provoked Rayudu, who was always being spitfire.
The two race against each other and almost fight before being separated by their MI teammates.
