LAHORE: After spending 20 months in prison on money laundering charges, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz was released on bail, here on Saturday.
PML-N center leader Maryam Nawaz, along with other party leaders including Pervaiz Rashid, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ata Tarar, greet Hamza Shahbaz at the prison gate.
A large number of PML-N workers and local leaders were also present outside the prison. Workers greet their leader by dancing to drum beats and party songs. The party has set up several welcome camps on the Hamza Shahbaz route, from the prison to her home in Model Town. Each camp was full of happy party workers, who blocked the road when Hamza’s caravan reached them. They also rained down on their leaders, especially Hamza Shahbaz.
The order to release Hamza was issued by accountability court duty judge Akmal Khan after the bond bail, held by PML-N’s leader, was verified.
Hamzah, speaking with party workers following his release, said the government had failed to prove even a cent of corruption against him and other PML-N leaders despite being in power for three years and despite holding him in prison for 20 months.
He said that an incompetent ruler had destroyed the country. “Soon those who talk about the state of Medina will have to give an answer,” he stressed. “Those who ask for commissions from Broadsheet are free, while those who save billions of rupees from the state treasury face the NAB case,” regretted Hamzah, adding that government officials lied to the people that they had evidence against opposition leaders. ” Had they had evidence, I would not have been released from prison, “he added.
Earlier, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz arrived outside Lakhpat City Prison where she received her cousin. Maryam got into Hamza Shahbaz’s car instead of using her own vehicle and reached the reception. Hamza Shahbaz’s car was driven by Ataullah Tarar while Marriyum Aurangzeb was also sitting in the same car. Maryam Nawaz also shared her selfie with Hamza Shahbaz on her twitter account.
Before leaving prison, the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly met his father and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, who are also in the same prison.
Party sources said Shahbaz Sharif congratulated his son on his release on bail. Sharif’s family members also reached Lakhpat City Prison. Sources said Hamza Shahbaz Rabia’s wife, Javeriya’s sister, Shahbaz Sharif Kausar’s sister, Tehmina Durrani’s wife, Yusuf Abbas’s nephews, Maria Yusuf and Saira Yusuf and Mian Waqar reached prison and met Hamza Shahbaz and congratulated him.
Previously, leaving Jati Umrah for prison, Maryam said Imran Khan came to government through a conspiracy, but now there is no chance for him to come to power again.
Answering a question, he said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) would soon begin its preparations for the proposed long march, “but it looks like the government may not last before the long march”.
“The certainty of the PTI candidate election in Daska will be forfeited if re-election occurs and that’s why the government is trying to block the ECP decision,” he said.
Resisting the impression that there are differences in the party, Maryam said: “We will do more for the party together.”
He admitted that even PTI members no longer liked PTI and would not support their party in the Senate elections. He claims that Imran Khan’s performance has affected his vote bank too. “To vote for Imran Khan again is to support vote-stealing,” he said, adding that once Imran Khan had conspired to come to power, there was no more chance.
Maryam said PTI assembly members were also looking for safe paths for themselves and PTI was facing rebellions in every province. He said that despite the fraud, the government could not win the Daska elections.
He said the Daska constituency was telling the truth about how PTI stole the election in 2018. “The government is challenging the KPU’s decision to re-election in Daska because they are afraid that the officers involved in fraud will open their mouths and tell the name of their employer,” he said, adding, attempts were made to stop the KPU decision.
“Hamza Shahbaz’s daughter is 20 months old but she is serving her sentence,” said Maryam and tweeted that today Hamza Shahbaz will meet her daughter.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, while expressing his gratitude for the release of Hamzah Syahbaz, congratulated the nation and said that God willing, the nation will also be released from the prison of vote thieves soon.
“Hamza Shahbaz faces Imran Khan’s worst political revenge with courage and courage,” he added.
He said Hamza had become a symbol of resistance to political revenge and NAB-Niazi relations. “Twenty months have passed but no evidence of corruption can be found against Hamza Shahbaz,” he said, adding that NAB-Niazi’s relationship to Hamza Shahbaz can be remembered in history as a dark chapter of political revenge.
He said people were suffering from inflation, rising prices, unemployment, high prices for flour, sugar, electricity, gas and medicine, while the rulers plundered them.
