They are some of the most popular smartphones all over the world, but if you use iPhone, new reports can make you reconsider which applications you have installed.
Researchers from Sophos Labs have urged iPhone users to delete 30 applications that can make them really lose their pockets.
Application uses ‘ glassware ’- cunning technology that charges a very high subscription fee to users who don’t know.
In a blog about these findings, Sophos explained: “In this latest research round, we found more than 30 applications that we consider software on Apple’s official App Store.
“Many of these applications charge a subscription rate like $ 30 per month or $ 9 per week after a trial period of 3 or 7 days. If someone continues to pay for the subscription for one year, each will cost $ 360 or $ 468. For an application. “
Most applications identified by researchers are image editors, horoscopes / forecasts / palm readers, QR code scanners, and face filter applications (scroll down for a complete list).
And despite the fact that most are advertised on the App Store as ‘free’, they are found to be a huge burden on users.
Sophos explained: “If you think one of these applications is free and installs it, the application will give you a” free trial “notification immediately after launching the application for the first time.
“This notification asks users to provide payment card details. In some cases, most of the useful features of the application will only be used if you register for a subscription.
“Some users can register to subscribe without reading the small print, which includes the actual subscription fee.”
While the researchers focused on iOS applications in this study, they warned that many similar fleeceware applications were also present on the Internet Google Play Store.
Based on the findings, the researchers urged the public to be vigilant about the applications they installed on their smartphones.
Sophos added: “Users must remain vigilant and carefully examine the requirements for buying or” subscribing “to applications that are promoted through in-app advertisements. If $ 30 a week seems like a lot to spend on astrology, barcode readers, or apps that will show you what you were like when you were 80 years old, look for another application. “
Meanwhile, if you have one of these software applications on your iPhone and want to cancel your subscription, here’s how:
- Open the Settings application
- Tap your name, then tap Subscriptions
- Tap the subscription that you want to manage
- Select a different subscription option, or tap Cancel Subscription. If you don’t see Cancel Subscription, the subscription has been canceled and won’t renew
