At least 193 Pakistanis stranded in India returned home | Instant News


LAHORE: At least 193 Pakistani citizens, stranded in India because of the outbreak of a new coronavirus, have returned to the country via the Wagah border, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The Pakistan High Commission in Delhi oversees the repatriation of citizens who were stranded in India because they were locked up.

Stranded citizens of Pakistan, including women and children, were screened and moved to quarantine centers in Lahore after their arrival in Pakistan.

Most returned were also examined at Attari before being allowed to cross the Wagah border.

The Indian interior ministry transports Pakistanis to the Wagah border at Islamabad’s request. Upon arrival in Pakistan, citizens thanked the federal government for taking quick steps to return.

Earlier this month, 41 Pakistanis stranded in India returned to the country via the Wagah border.

LAHORE: 41 Pakistanis stranded in India returned Thursday to the country via the Waghah border, ARY News reported.

Pakistanis living in various Indian states on visas, have asked Pakistan’s high commissioner in New Delhi to send them back to Pakistan.

The Indian interior ministry transports Pakistanis to the Wagah border at Islamabad’s request. Upon arrival in Pakistan, villagers, thanked the federal government for taking quick steps to return.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Special Assistant to the National Security and Strategic Policy Planning Division Moeed Yusuf said that the government wanted to lift stranded Pakistanis across the world in a safe manner.

“Isolating yourself for Pakistanis returning from other countries is mandatory,” Moeed Yusuf said when speaking with the ARY News program, Bakhabar Savera.

He said the Pakistani government was trying to appoint 6 to 7 thousand Pakistanis who were stranded every week, while close supervision of the operation also continued.

It should be noted that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday issued a timetable for special international flights to repatriate thousands of Pakistanis who were stranded in various countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a PIA spokesperson, the national airline will continue its flight operations from April 15 to April 19. PIA will operate nine special flight between periods.
