UPDATE: A freeze warning was issued for Cayuga, a neighboring country Local News | Instant News

Freeze the watch

National Weather Service

The National Weather Service on Monday afternoon has increased freeze watches covering most of the region to freeze warnings, reflecting a higher level of certainty that freezing temperatures will affect vegetation overnight.

The freeze warning takes place from 1 to 10 Tuesday.

Light weather, like spring at the end of last week, has moved out and freezing temperatures are on their way back.

The National Weather Service has issued frozen watches for upstate New York, including all of the Cayuga Territory.

The watch goes into effect Monday night and lasts until mid-Tuesday morning. Temperatures are estimated to drop to 28 degrees in some areas.

Watches include the following countries bordering Cayuga: Seneca, Onondaga, Wayne and Oswego.

“Freezing and freezing conditions can kill plants and other sensitive vegetation,” the National Weather Service said. “Take steps now to protect soft plants from cold air. Vegetation that is sensitive to cold can be closed or brought in if possible to protect from cold and freezing.”

Why the Auburn hospital, for now, won’t be able to open for elective surgery Local News | Instant News

“Some individual hospitals do not meet one of the tests and some districts do not, so that is why you see some differences in the area based only on hospitalization in certain areas,” Malatras said.

After Cuomo’s briefing, the governor’s office told The Citizen that elective surgery could not be continued in the Cayuga Region because the Auburn Community Hospital did not have sufficient bed capacity. Hospitals have 14.67% of the total available beds and 21% are open in intensive care units – both below the 30% threshold set by the state.

Matthew Chadderdon, vice president of marketing and public relations for the Auburn Community Hospital, said the hospital is working with the state Department of Health to “understand the reopening criteria for elective surgery and believe any problems with the capacity and beds available in our ICU. and other departments will be clarified soon. ”

A few weeks ago, continued Chadderdon, hospital management formed a team to develop plans to continue elective surgery and other services. The team has met regularly, he said, to formulate a strategy that includes strict safety guidelines for patients.

“The plan is a road map to guide preparedness, prioritization and scheduling,” Chadderdon said. “The road map will include time, testing, adequate equipment, priority setting and scheduling, as well as safety and risk mitigation related to COVID, patient communication, environmental cleanup and regulatory issues.”
