Italy’s Banca Ifis appointed a new CEO after the current leader said he would step down | Instant News

MILANO (Reuters) – Italy’s Banca Ifis appointed Frederik Geertman to take over as chief executive from April after current CEO Luciano Colombini announced his intention to step down, the bank said on Monday.

The Italian bank said the changes, agreed with the controlling shareholder of La Scogliera, were needed to accelerate the bank’s growth and digitization process following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Colombini was appointed chief executive of Banca Ifis in 2019.

Frederik Geertman is deputy general manager and commercial director of the Italian bank UBI Banca and he has previously worked for ten years at UniCredit, Banca Ifis said in a statement.

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazil’s biggest lender Itau Unibanco Holding SA on Friday said it was creating a unit focused on electronic payments whose heads would be part of a reconfigured executive committee aimed at making banks more agile under a new CEO.

Current vice president of technology and operations Andre Sapoznik will head a newly launched payment-focused unit, which will include credit cards, the Rede acquisition business, retail digital payments units and cash management, according to internal documents reviewed by Reuters.

This step comes at a time when traditional banks face increasing competition from fintech startups such as card processors StoneCo Ltd, PagSeguro Digital Ltd, and fintech Nubank.

Sapoznik will be part of a new 12-member committee including Milton Maluhy, who will take over as Itau’s chief executive in February, up from the previous 6 members. As part of the change, the bank removed the vice president’s post in an attempt to cut layers of management.

In the document, Itau said the new configuration was aimed at giving executives more flexibility to make decisions.

The bank’s retail bank will be led by Andre Rodrigues who is already an executive in the unit, while Flavio Souza will head the wholesale bank Itau BBA, where he is now in charge of commercial banking.

The new committee will also have Carlos Constantini in charge of wealth management, as new entrants such as broker XP Inc increasingly attract traditional bank clients.

WELLINGTON (Reuters) – New Zealand’s Greg Barclay has been elected as the new independent chairman of the International Cricket Council, the world sports governing body said.

Barclay, a commercial lawyer and director of New Zealand Cricket since 2012, replaced interim chairman Imran Khwaja who had stepped in to temporarily replace India’s Shashank Manohar after his second two-year term ended in July.

“It is an honor to be selected as Chair of the International Cricket Board and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support,” Barclay said in a statement.

“I hope we can come together to lead the sport and come out of the global pandemic in a strong position and ready to thrive.”

Barclay is the NZC representative on the ICC board, but will step down from his NZC role to lead the global regulatory body.

He was also the director of the men’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
