KARACHI: The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday claimed to have arrested a banned terrorist Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who was allegedly involved in planning the murder of the late policeman, Chaudhary Aslam, and was the right hand man of TTP leader Mufti Shakirullah.
CTD Police Investigation Inspector Naeem Ahmed identified the man arrested as Zubair alias Khuray alias Ali s / o Muhammad Umar. He was arrested in Karachi, in the northwestern area of the city of Orangi.
The suspect had returned to Pakistan, suspected of terrorist activity, and was arrested while he was busy delivering weapons and ammunition for the purpose. The CTD also recovered a large number of weapons from its possession. The suspect went into hiding for some time because he was suspected of being involved in a number of terrorist activities.
According to CTD officials, the suspect confessed that the murder of SSP Chaudhary Aslam was planned at the Mufti Shakirullah madrasa, which is hiding in a neighboring country and giving instructions from there to carry out terrorist activities in Pakistan.
The suspect also admitted to carrying out the targeted killings of a number of police officers and other law enforcement agencies on the instructions of Mufti Shakirullah, the police added. Qari Ilyas and Qari Jaan were alleged accomplices in the targeted killings by police officials.
