Oxfam, University of Karachi signs an MoU to stop harassment | Instant News


KARACHI: Oxfam and Karachi University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to curb incidents of harassment in educational institutions through security mechanisms and to create awareness among students and staff about the issue of gender violence.

The MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University Professor Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi and Oxfam in Pakistan Gender Specialist, Sartaj Abbasi on behalf of Country Director, Oxfam in Pakistan on Thursday. The agreement highlights Oxfam’s commitment to reducing incidents of harassment and harassment in educational institutions and to strengthening reporting mechanisms to help victims hold them accountable for these incidents. It will also create awareness among students, academics and staff about gender based violence.

Oxfam Pakistan Country Director Syed Shahnawaz Ali conveyed his message, stressing the need to make sexual harassment laws and committees more accessible and responsive to university victims, mostly students, and underscoring the importance of understanding and creating awareness about the legal platform. available to bring perpetrators to work and support attack survivors.

Karachi University Deputy Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi praised the project for addressing increasing and untreated harassment in educational institutions. The MoU is part of Oxfam’s Ending Violence against Women and Girls through the Edutainment Project which is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australia. Under this project, Oxfam is working with 20 universities in Karachi to raise awareness about sexual harassment, gender-based violence, youth empowerment and development.

NGO’s help sought to curb addiction | Instant News


Lahore:additional Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, Safdar Hussain Virk attended the drug Advisory training centre (indicator), project YOCFAN regarding the operation of the system the indicator with homeless addicts who are using hard and soft drugs on roads, footpaths, parks and gardens in Lahore.

LAHORE: The Punjab government in a meeting on Friday formed a team to make a policy to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the provincial capital.

Led by the Chief Secretary of the Additional Department of the Interior of Punjab Momin Agha, the team was assigned to make recommendations for a separate and effective management policy for Lahore because cases of new corona virus in the city continued to increase significantly.

The province has so far recorded 10,033 patients with COVID-19 infection.

The decision was made during a meeting – chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar – to analyze the steps taken to contain the spread of the corona virus pandemic and determine the reasons for the surge in positive cases in Lahore.

Also part of the meeting were Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Majid Ehsan, General Commander of the 10th Division Major General Muhammad Aneeq-ur-Rehman Malik, Director General of the Punjab Rangers Major General Muhammad Aamir Majeed, Chief Punjab Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik, and Police Inspector General for Punjab Shoaib Dastgir.

Lt. Majid Ehsan said it was necessary to implement a separate line of action given the current situation in the provincial capital.
