Coronavirus: Nearly half of Scottish nursing homes report suspected cases among residents | Instant News

Nearly half of Scottish nursing homes have reported suspected cases of Covid-19 among the population.

New figures released by the Scottish Government show that 42 percent of service providers have registered some form of outbreak.

As of yesterday (April 18), a total of 459 houses had reported at least one suspected case of the virus at several points.

The government said, “it is important to note that not all nursing homes will still experience an outbreak”.

They added: “Additional data will be published soon on numbers that currently have an outbreak.”

A total of 7,342 staff, or around 4.4 percent of the NHS workforce, also reported being absent for various reasons related to COVID-19.

It happened after one week where a number of treatment facilities registered many deaths at the hands of this disease.

Berelands Care Home at Prestwick has recorded 20 deaths, while nine residents died at Clydebank’s Hill View House.

Eleven residents lost their lives after showing symptoms of the virus at Elderslie Nursing Home in Paisley.

Five residents at Wyndwell Nursing Home in Peterhead also died, while four died at the Glenfairn Nursing Home in Ayr.

Previous home care outbreaks have resulted in deaths of residents at Burlington Court Care Home, Cranhill; Almond Court, Drumchapel; Home Castle View Care, Dumbarton; and Tranent Care Home, East Lothian.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that a quarter of the deaths from the Scottish corona virus occurred at the nursing home.
