ALTAMONT – Making a great first impression can be a valuable asset when interviewing for a new job or creating a new positive image.

Kate Beals, a native Brazilian who moved to Altamont this year, has years of formal knowledge and training in the fashion industry. She recently launched Kate Beals Fashion, offering her services as a consultant and personal stylist to local residents.

Beals moved to Altamont in March to marry Realtor Grant Beals Century 21 Reality Concepts of Effingham.

“Coming to Altamont gave me new opportunities to be happy,” said Kate Beals. “I left my whole life in another country – and coming here is a blessing.”

Kate Beals has three children Diovani, 21, and Leonardo, 22, who live in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Kamilla, 30, who plays volleyball in Portugal.

Beals spent 4 1/2 years at the Sigbol Fashion Institute, majoring in Fashion Design, and studied Fashion Journalism in Escola Sao Paulo.

When Beals started his professional career in the fashion industry 25 years ago, he was a freelance journalist in Brazil who wrote articles for fashion magazines and newspapers. She also worked at a department store selling certain high-quality clothing brands before launching her own personal consulting business.

Beals grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His father was a driver and his mother worked as a tailor.

“She has her own studio, where she makes her dresses,” Beals said. “I grew up amidst silk and embroidery.”

Beals said she loves to see how happy people are when her mother makes clothes for them.

“This has allowed me to understand that people have different bodies and not everyone can look good in the same clothes,” said Beals. “I help people find out what clothes are right for them.”

Beals has a five-step system for evaluating what clothes would look good on someone. He said the most important thing was the first conversation he had with a client.

“I interviewed someone to understand the places they visited and the things they liked,” said Beals. “In this interview with this client, I observed his physical type, what his job is, the places he frequents. After that, through colorimetry, we found a suitable color for her skin tone. “

After determining colorimetry, he visited his client’s home to organize their wardrobes, removing clothes unsuitable for the person.

He then goes to a shop with a client and finds clothes that best fit the person. Beals helps women and men find the right clothing solutions.

“I would then become a personal shopper,” said Beals. “Choosing the right clothes is important. I found what was right for the person. “

Beals said wearing the right clothes can also improve a person’s mentality.

For example, she said women stayed home after having children and looked in the mirror thinking that they would never look great again. There is no reason for someone to stay home and feel depressed. They may just be wearing the wrong combination of clothes, he said.

“Sometimes people are just embarrassed by their appearance and think their image is not good,” said Beals. “Some people think fashion is not important … Yes, it is.”

“I like to make people more confident,” said Beals. “It may be. I am very happy to see people happy. “

Beals also has experience as a business consultant. During one consultation, he made a presentation to a group of employees at a bank on how to present himself to the public.

“Sometimes business owners worry about their image,” said Beals. Here’s what I can help you with.

“I help employees understand what types of make-up are good for work and what clothes are right for,” says Beals. “I can help with the company dress code.”

She said some employees come in with too much makeup and sometimes wear the wrong color. Beals said the company he works for in Brazil asked him to teach the correct dress code because businesses weren’t sure how to discuss dress code issues with their employees. She can make a presentation to the sales staff explaining the importance of wearing appropriate clothing that makes them more confident at work and helps them sell more products.

Beals says another service she provides is helping someone looking for their first job choose the right wardrobe option. He said the school would hire him to give presentations to students on how making a good impression by wearing appropriate clothing could help land a job.

“The first impression is the most important,” said Beals. “Those first 15 seconds leave a good or bad impression. If you wear the wrong clothes, there are no second chances. “

She says good clothes and the right grooming are essential to making a good first impression.

“It makes a big difference,” said Beals.

Prosecutors said the suspect, who has family roots in Egypt, started espionage activities in July 2010 on the instructions of the Egyptian embassy in Berlin.

“He used this position since at least July 2010 to support Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS) employees in obtaining information,” prosecutors told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The Egyptian-born man has been accused of using his language skills and resources available at BPA to survey and compile reports in the German media, especially on domestic and foreign policy.

Prosecutors said he was also involved in the failed attempt to recruit agents for GIS in 2014 and 2015. In return, the suspect hopes his family in Egypt will receive special treatment from the authorities.

The suspect’s caretaker helped his mother gain pension rights in Egypt, and she was sometimes invited to receptions at the embassy, ​​prosecutors said. He has also been invited to official receptions, such as the farewell of the Egyptian ambassador to Germany in 2019.

The case came to light in July, when it was mentioned in an annual report by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency.

“There are indications that the Egyptian service is trying to recruit Egyptians living in Germany for intelligence purposes through their visits to the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Germany and their trips to Egypt,” said a report by the domestic intelligence service published in July.

The man faces up to five years in prison if convicted of being a spy for a foreign intelligence agency.

DHL marks 50 years on Guam, seeing an increase in consumer goods Guam business | Instant News


From a small team in 1970 that started DHL’s first outpost in the Western Pacific, to a 32-member team now overseeing operations throughout the wider Micronesia and Pacific region, the Guam office of express mail and courier companies has grown.

Greg Dornon, general manager of the DHL Express Guam office, said the company’s reach first stretched from San Francisco to Hawaii, then to Guam. From Guam, offices are set up in Palau, Saipan, the Federated States of Micronesia, and other parts of the Pacific.

This year, as DHL celebrates its 50th anniversary on the island, Dornon said the regional office is continuing to expand to meet customer demand, which has increased not only over the past decades but also in recent months.

“It was mainly business documents before they had a fax or something like that and now that has changed,” he said, noting that the drugs were among the products the company was entrusted to ship.

He said in the early days of the local office, employees would get six or seven bags of documents to deliver. Now, they earn 33,000 to 44,000 pounds in one day.

He said there had been an increase this year in direct consumer deliveries – a popular trend on the mainland that’s popular locally.

“We’ve always had some business-to-consumer – but we’re getting a lot out of that now where direct-to-consumer delivery,” says Dornon. “For Guam, the pandemic has really brought deliveries right to the door. We saw a significant increase in shipments. Our entry lanes go up by about 30% or 40% – so more shipments come in. “

Electronics and “many deliveries such as clothes” are delivered directly to residents’ doorsteps, he said.

While the pandemic is already impacting businesses and DHL ensuring all couriers have protective gear and vehicles in clean condition, the shift of consumers to online purchases is keeping companies busier than ever.

“During the pandemic, we had employed four employees,” said Dornon.

The local office also added two vehicles to fleet 15. That’s nearly three times the six in use when Dornon first arrived in Guam more than 20 years ago.

Trends

Dornon said DHL was ready to continue serving the island in the coming years and to adapt to changing consumer attitudes.

“You will see we are hiring more people, you will see we are meeting important delivery needs, (like) medicines,” he said. “Even when the passengers on the plane have left, the demand for cargo is increasing and I think it will increase.”

And the convenience of ordering goods online, Dornon said, is unlikely to decrease, based on consumer behavior on the mainland.

“I think we’re going to see a lot more in the express industry, where deliveries go straight to home,” said Dornon, adding that his brother-in-law could order on Amazon in the morning, and receive it that afternoon.

“I thought it would be in Guam,” he said. “We are very far away but we will get even more home deliveries, … it will become more and more economical as volume grows.”

Employee focus

Dornon said Guam customers value DHL’s service and the company is trying to ensure its service meets demand. He praised the company’s success for the employees, in which the company invested.

“Guam is DHL’s regional office, which oversees Saipan, Palau, American Samoa, Marshall Islands, FSM,” he said. “We employ everything locally.”

DHL provides extensive training for all employees, sending them off the island for a few days and training them. Employees are trained in integrity in doing the job right the first time and doing the job with passion.

“As a company, we are really focused on looking after our people and making sure that we have given them the tools to be their best,” said Dornon.

“Our people make the difference. That’s the key. Everyone has airplanes, trucks and buildings. … The employees – they are what make the company better, ”he added.

Future change

With the pandemic, companies are looking for ways to help ensure customer comfort and safety. One of the upcoming programs is contactless delivery.

“So customers can arrange for us to leave packages at their doorstep where they don’t have to sign,” he said. “I think it’s probably going to be a trend in the future, where customers who want contactless delivery can manage.”

In addition, within a year or two, Guam customers can get an application that will allow them to follow the DHL courier who receives their shipment.

“I really think consumers will enjoy delivery – where they don’t have to go to the store for everything they can order – whether it’s US mail or (via) one of our competitors,” said Dornon.

That’s the wave of the future and that’s what’s happening in the state, said Dornon.
