A $ 350 payment to employers to pay for workers who need to self-isolate pending an exam but are unable to work from home starts tomorrow.

The new Short-Term No-Show Payments (STAP), announced in December, also support people who have dependents who need to stay at home.

The one-time payment will be available through the Ministry of Social Development and is an extension of the remaining Leave Assistance Scheme.

Workplace Relations Minister Michael Wood said STAP could also be used to cover workers’ sick leave costs if they feel unwell but do not have sick leave.

“We have listened to businesses and workers who say we need a way to support businesses to help workers stay at home if they are tested.”

How does Short Term No-Show Payment work?

If an employee who needs to self-isolate has taken sick leave who is eligible to do so, the employer must use $ 350 to pay the worker’s normal salary or wages.

If a staff member has spent all of their sick leave, the employer should try to add the $ 350 payment to the worker’s normal salary or at least pay the worker the full absence payment.

Workers are not required to exercise any or all of their paid leave entitlements before their employer applies for Short-Term Absence Payments on their behalf.

If the employee’s regular salary is less than or equal to the Short-term Absence Payment, the business must pay the worker the regular salary. Any difference should be used to help pay for other affected staff.

To get paid, businesses must sign a statement that they meet the criteria and businesses can only apply once in a 30 day period for each worker unless medical advice specifies otherwise.

Covid-19 Short-Term No-Show Payments are available for:

• businesses (including registered businesses, sole traders, self-employed persons, registered charities, incorporated societies, non-governmental organizations or post-settlement governance entities) in New Zealand that employ and pay the worker named in their application.

• businesses that employ a variety of jobs, including full-time, part-time, casual, fixed-term contracts.

Businesses can apply on behalf of workers who are unable to work from home and:

• stay at home while waiting for the results of the Covid-19 test.

• Parents or caregivers of dependents who live at home while waiting for their Covid-19 test results.

• A person who has been told to self-isolate by a health worker or doctor because they are a household member or secondary contact while they await test results from close contact.

Karachi housekeeper accused of murdering employer escaped during prison transfer: police | Instant News


KARACHI: A domestic helper who was arrested on charges of drugging and murdering her employer in Sachal Karachi managed to escape from police custody during her transfer to prison on Wednesday.

He has been arrested along with two other female suspects by the Gizri police.

An FIR has been registered against Shamim Rani.

According to the police, the three women who were accused of killing their employer after sedating them were taken to the Malir court where they were detained by the police.

Police said the women were then taken to a civil hospital for coronavirus tests when one of them fled near MA Jinnah Street.

The FIR has been registered at the Aram Bagh police station.

Investigating officers sub-inspectors Sardar Imrani, Ali Akbar and police Maryam were also nominated in the FIR.

GRUBER: A new version of form I-9 is required Column | Instant News


On May 1 this year, the US Citizenship and Immigration Service required all employers to use the new version of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form. The new form date is at the bottom of the page and 10/21/2019. New forms and expanded instructions can be found at USCIS.gov under the “FORM” tab.

With so many people laid off, once the employer starts hiring again, many of us need to complete an I-9. I-9 is currently three pages long. The first two pages are the main part of the form and page three is the basic instructions. (Versions that can be filled online appear as four pages but are printed as three pages.) Note that for rehires, an employer may be able to withdraw a previously completed I-9 and complete Part 3, rather than completing a new I-9. .

The basic premise of Form I-9 is that employees must provide documents or documents that prove work identity and eligibility. For most employees who are US citizens, the form is very easy. Instruction page 3 provides a detailed list of documents that an employee can choose to give to the employer to complete the form. Employees will often choose to show their driver’s license and Social Security card. Employers should not ask for specific documents, because that could lead to unfair labor practices.

There are many other documents that can be accepted. I-9 has gone a long way since it was first needed in 1986. At that time it had what is now two squeezed pages all into one page. The printout is small, you should try to squeeze the handwriting in the information needed in a small space and certain parts are very, very easy to ignore. For something that seems so simple, it’s certainly not one size fits all, both past and present.

The full I-9 instructions include 15 pages. It barely scratches the surface to fill out forms for less general situations. The USCIS website has a Handbook for M-274 Entrepreneurs, which is more than 100 pages long. This handbook has just been revised so that the latest version is dated April 27, 2020.

After an employee is laid off, the employer can make a calendar I-9 to be destroyed. After termination of employment, the employer is required to retain the I-9 three years after the date of recruitment or one year after the work ends, whichever is newer. Many employers make the mistake of getting rid of an I-9 too quickly or never getting rid of an I-9 at all.

Form I-9 is part of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, which was signed by President Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986. This is an important part of the immigration law. IRCA makes it illegal to knowingly employ foreign nationals who do not have a work permit. The move (and its expansion under President George W.
