Switzerland in the District of Ohio hosts 2021 spelling bees | News, Sports, Jobs | Instant News

On Tuesday, January 19, the Swiss School in Ohio held a District Spelling Bee. There are students representing four primary schools.

Tiernan Kocher, 6th grader from Powhatan Elementary is the overall winner of the District Spelling Bee. Drew Miller, an 8th grader from Skyvue Elementary received the 2nd place award for Outstanding Spelling. River Elementary’s Grade 6 student Grant Smith received the 3rd place award for Outstanding Spelling. The top seven students, plus one substitute student, from our District Spelling Bee will compete on March 11 and 12, 2021 at the Regional Spelling Bee in Marietta.

Also representing Switzerland from Ohio Schools at Regional Bee will be: Dominic Hinkle – Woodsfield Elem., Kennady Russell – Skyvue Elem., Christopher Thomas – Woodsfield Elem., Gracie Blair – Skyvue Elem., And Gunnar Workman – Skyvue Elem. As an alternative. Trainers from each school work with students to help them prepare for District Spelling Bees and will continue to work with the top eight to prepare Regional Bees. The trainers for each building are: Barbara Faldowski – Beallsville, Brandon Bunting – Powhatan, Rebecca Reddin – River, Breanne Jones and Brooke Ferrel – Skyvue, and Amanda Blackstone – Woodsfield.

Vegan Italian Food Shop Opens in Little Italy in NYC | Instant News



Based on Gothamist, a vegan Italian food store has opened in Little Italy. Galioto’s is the new venture of Nicole Galioto and Nima Garos, owners of a plant-based Mexican restaurant LOL.

The Galioto Family Cake Shop is named after Nicole and NIma’s father. “My dad was not the healthiest eater,” says Nicole Gothamist. “That’s one reason why we want to give the community a more health conscious choice to enjoy food or buy groceries.”

Galioto Family Cake Shop located at 131 Mulberry Street, NY, NY 10013. There is food store sandwich, including eggplant, Portobello and Parm Meatballs– all vegan! That food store also sells kitchen items including olives, canned nuts, and olive oil. There is also a variation from pasta salad and desserts!

Cher visits Pakistan to help save ‘world’s loneliest elephant’ | Instant News



Animal rights activist, singer and icon Cher visited Pakistan at the end of November to save Kaavan elephant, according to the Associated Press. The formula known as the “world’s loneliest elephant”, and will leave the zoo after years of lobbying for animal rights group and activist.

Cher met Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan and visited Kaavan as he prepared to go to his new home. Martin Bauer, spokesman for Four Paws International said that Kaavan was scheduled to go to Cambodia and live in a shelter there. Cher thanks Khan for making the transfer possible The formula to Cambodia.

Dr. Amir Khalil, a veterinarian with the animal group Four Paws, have been treating Kaavan’s disease for the past few months and preparing him to travel to Cambodia. Khalil said of his departure, “In the sanctuary in Cambodia… waiting for him were three women, three female Asian elephants. Now Kaavan may have a new partner, and share a new life with a partner. Elephants are ambassadors of the forest, and they deserve to live like ambassadors, ”Khalil the word. The formula lost his partner Saheli in 2012.

Kavaan the elephant was arrested when he was only one year old. She was taken from her herd in Sri Lanka and taken to the Islamabad Zoo in Pakistan where she has been since then. His colleague died in 2012 he is alone since.

Horse Legs Tied, Neck Broken and Back Slammed in a Terrible New Zealand Rodeo | Instant News



According to reporting in Independent, New Zealand rodeo has been called in for animal abuse. Bulls, calves and horses were targets of violence at rodeos.

Could Burger King’s reusable packaging change fast food forever? | Instant News


Participating Burger King restaurants will feature a collection system, where customers can return packaging for safe cleaning via Loop and reuse.

Burger King is testing reusable packaging, encouraging customers to return these special Whopper boxes and soda and coffee cups to wash and reuse.

Burger King will launch a pilot program next year with TerraCycle’s waste-free circular packaging service, Loop, whose products can be cleaned and reused hygienically as long as the integrity of the packaging is maintained.

Initial test cities are New York, Portland, Ore., And Tokyo, with more cities expected to be added in the coming months. Loop officials have said previously that consumers should consider their project reminiscent of how households used to get milk – in reusable bottles.

“During COVID, we have seen the environmental impact of increasing takeaway orders, which makes this Burger King initiative even more important,” said Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle and Loop.

The announcement is the latest feature in Burger King’s pledge to get 100% of guest packaging from renewable, recycled or certified sources by 2025.

Take-away or diners who choose reusable packaging will be charged a deposit at the time of purchase, and when the packaging is returned, they receive a refund.

“As part of the Restaurant Brands for Good plan, we are investing in developing sustainable packaging solutions that will help propel the food service industry forward in reducing packaging waste,” said Matthew Banton, Burger King Global’s head of innovation and sustainability. “The Loop system gives us confidence in a reusable solution that meets our high safety standards, while offering our guests comfort while on the move.”

In July, the fast food chain announced a version of Whopper made from lemongrass-fed beef, which it said would reduce methane emissions. The beef industry has become a major target for environmentalists.

Another brand restaurant property, Tim Hortons, said this week end the practice of double cupping hot drinks, a move it says will remove hundreds of millions of cups from landfills every year. Coffee and breakfast retailers will introduce paper napkins early next year that use 25% less material and are made from 100% recycled fiber, which is expected to save 900 metric tons of paper a year. And the chain is phasing out plastic straws from its 4,000 restaurants across Canada.
