On Tuesday, January 19, the Swiss School in Ohio held a District Spelling Bee. There are students representing four primary schools.
Tiernan Kocher, 6th grader from Powhatan Elementary is the overall winner of the District Spelling Bee. Drew Miller, an 8th grader from Skyvue Elementary received the 2nd place award for Outstanding Spelling. River Elementary’s Grade 6 student Grant Smith received the 3rd place award for Outstanding Spelling. The top seven students, plus one substitute student, from our District Spelling Bee will compete on March 11 and 12, 2021 at the Regional Spelling Bee in Marietta.
Also representing Switzerland from Ohio Schools at Regional Bee will be: Dominic Hinkle – Woodsfield Elem., Kennady Russell – Skyvue Elem., Christopher Thomas – Woodsfield Elem., Gracie Blair – Skyvue Elem., And Gunnar Workman – Skyvue Elem. As an alternative. Trainers from each school work with students to help them prepare for District Spelling Bees and will continue to work with the top eight to prepare Regional Bees. The trainers for each building are: Barbara Faldowski – Beallsville, Brandon Bunting – Powhatan, Rebecca Reddin – River, Breanne Jones and Brooke Ferrel – Skyvue, and Amanda Blackstone – Woodsfield.
