It has been a long time since legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni embarked on the twilight phase of his glorious career and in the process saw many cricket experts see KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant fill his position. Pant’s inconsistent performances paved the way for KL Rahul’s resurgence as a reliable option to keep the Indian team on goal in a white ball match.
Although Rahul managed to maintain his fine form during the limited-overs series against New Zealand, the batsman was a little hesitant about replacing Dhoni in white ball format. Rahul had an unforgettable season in the Indian Premier League which recently concluded with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He is expected to wear several hats during the anticipated series between India and Australia.
Rahul is expected to strengthen the Men-In-Blue batting sequence. He will also be seen guarding the wickets in India’s upcoming limited-overs series against Australia. Sharing his thoughts on the same, Rahul spoke of Dhoni’s incredible input to Indian cricket and his similarities to the spinners on the team.
“See, obviously, nobody can fill MS Dhoni’s place, he has shown the way to the goalkeeping batsman on how to do the role perfectly, I thought I might just go and give the spinners some feedback on how long it will take. bouncing across different wickets. Goalkeepers have this responsibility, and I’ve done this job in a series in New Zealand, so hopefully I can do the same going forward, “Rahul said during a virtual press conference.
“I have done this in a series in New Zealand and I enjoyed it quite a lot … I hope I can do better at reading the game and giving good feedback to the bowlers and captains,” added Rahul at the end.
Together with Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul is also part of the three Team India squads for the complete Down Under tour.
