School owners are against extended winter holidays | Instant News

ISLAMABAD:

Private school owners have opposed the extended winter break proposed by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) to control the spread of the new coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The National Association of Private Schools (NAPS) has taken a strong exception to the possible closure of educational institutions with a spike in Covid-19 cases across the country.

The agency sued the NCOC, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood to refute rumors circulating about school closings.

NAPS chairman Malik Imran in a statement issued on Thursday confirmed that private schools are implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for virus prevention, unlike other institutions.

He compared the countermeasures violations in markets and other public places, maintaining that they followed every government order during a pandemic situation. Therefore, private educational institutions must be disturbed again, he added.

However, Malik Imran praised the federal education minister’s statement that educational institutions would not be closed.

The NAPS chair asked the government to compare the implementation of SOPs in schools with other private and public entities and businesses at an inter-provincial education conference on November 16.

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, three more deaths from the new coronavirus were reported while 80 others were infected with the deadly virus on Thursday. In addition, six educational institutions were also closed because people continued to ignore precautionary guidelines.

Three patients including Ashfaq, Shahid and Nagina were receiving treatment at the Sacred Family Hospital (HFH) when they died from the pandemic virus. About 10 patients were transferred to a ventilator because of their worsening condition.

Furthermore, medical staff has also caught the virus and about 30 of them including doctors have been isolated at home.

Health authorities have advised medical workers to strictly implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Chief Executive (CEO) of the District Health Authority (DHA) Dr Sohail Chaudhry said that as many as 409 people were currently observing the isolation of homes in the Rawalpindi district.

Meanwhile, six educational institutions including five schools and one college were closed in the garrison city after students and staff tested positive. DHA also issued a notification regarding this matter.

The schools include No. Girls High School. 1 Murree Road, Gharibabad Government Boys School, Kotli Satiyan Government Girls Middle School, Mandira Girls School, Teli Mohalla Girls Middle School, and FG Women College Kashmir Road will remain closed until November 21.

In addition, acute violations of precautionary SOPs are taking place in smartly locked areas as well as in public areas.

The Satellite City and Abbasiabad areas which were supposed to be closed after being declared hotspots remained open as usual on Thursday as well. The administration does not maintain checks and balances in both areas. Business activities throughout the city seemed to be running smoothly.

“I am delighted to be part of the Chennaiyin family. The coming season will be fantastic, I’m sure. It’s a shame we won’t be able to feel the warmth of the fans in the stands, because they are truly amazing and loyal,” said an excited Memo from his hometown in Brazil.
“Every time I play in Chennai, I really feel their passion. They will always be on our minds, and we have to work hard and unite to achieve greatness. A unique ISL awaits us, which will be a spectacle in itself.”

“Memo is a solid addition to our squad. His rich experience playing in ISL will provide a huge boost, along with his versatility in the main defensive area. We have signed a proven and reliable individual at Memo, who will definitely hit ground running,” said László.
