Karachi can use Green Line service by July 2021: minister | Instant News

Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar said that the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit project in Karachi which started in 2016 will be completed in July 2021.

The Green Line project was started by the PML-N government. The estimated cost is Rs25 billion.

The project will be completed in 2017 but PML-N cannot complete the work on time. The PTI government has announced several completion dates for the project since 2018.

In its July 2020 briefing, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Planning and Development was informed that the Green Line would begin between March and June 2021.

However, Sindh Transport Minister Awais Shah claimed that the project could not be completed at that time.

On Saturday, confident Umar told the media that the project is in its final stages and people can use it next year. “It will be active and running next July,” he said.

He added that the five projects that are the responsibility of the government are K-IV water supply, railway projects, KCR, transportation corridors, and the Green Line. He claims that all projects are in the works.

“The prime minister will visit Karachi next week to review his own project,” he said.

‘We didn’t escape with the island of Sindh’

“Look, the federal government isn’t planning to run away [Sindh’s] the island, “joked Umar when answering reporters’ questions. He was questioned about petitions being filed against his government for “taking administrative control” of the islands of Buddo and Bundal which lie off the coast of Karachi.

Governor Imran Ismail, addressing a press conference with Umar, said the islands would be a “game changer” for the Sindh economy.

“Once these islands develop, we won’t get a penny if that. Sindh will get all the income. We just want them to make the most of it, “he said.
