Rizwan to lead Multan Sultan | Instant News

KARACHI: Pakistan’s main stumper Mohammad Rizwan was appointed on Monday by Multan Sultans as their new captain just before the 2021 HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) which kicks off here at the National Stadium from 20 February.

Rizwan replaces Test to ditch Shan Masood, who led the team last season to the PSL-5 playoffs. Rizwan was previously part of defending champion Karachi Kings, but the franchise led by Imad Wasim has always favored West Indies Chadwick Walton over Rizwan, who played only one game last season.

Rizwan has recently made headlines for his brilliant performances as he garnered man of the series awards in both the Test and T20 series against South Africa.

Rizwan on Sunday recently missed joining the elite roster, featuring West Indies Chris Gayle and New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum to score 50 plus in four consecutive T20 Internationals. Rizwan is out for 42.

“I hope to lead the Multan Sultan team for the next season,” said Rizwan. “I have understood the innovative approach that the franchise applied last season and I look forward to playing my part this season. Multan Sultan has a successful HBL PSL-5 and we will aspire to be better this time, especially with senior Pakistani players such as Shahid Afridi, Shan Masood and Sohail Tanvir, “he said.

The sultan’s owner, Alamgir Khan Tareen, was moved by Rizwan’s leadership abilities. “Rizwan has shown exemplary leadership qualities with the Pakistani team as well as with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in domestic tournaments. We thank Shan Masood for leading the franchise so well last season and for instilling a winning mentality in the team, “said Tareen. Rizwan was part of the Lahore Qalandars in the 2016 and 2017 season.
