Although he admits that he has not seen the alleged incident involving Hiroko Sakai at Marseille, the center-back believes his colleague is innocent.
Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos has jumped into the club’s defense and Brazil Teammate Neymar followed allegations that the attacker intended to insult him Marseille players during the now infamous September clash between the two League 1 side.
Neymar was one of five players to receive a red card in Marseille’s 1-0 win. but later accused Alvaro Gonzalez of racially abusing him before he hit the Spanish defender in the head, the foul which led to his expulsion.
The LFP continues to investigate the claims against Gonzalez, which deny the charges brought against him by the formerBarcelona star.
In contrast, a Marseille source admitted this week AFP that the club has a video of Neymar allegedly insulting their Japanese full-back Hiroko Sakai, although a spokesman for l’OM refused to confirm the allegations when questioned by the agency.
“We have no comment. We entrust all our expertise and analysis to the league testers,” said the individual.
Marquinhos, however, insists that his team-mates do not use offensive language and believes in his innocence.
“I know Neymar, he is a person who never uses racist insults,” the center-back explained The Parisian when asked about these allegations.
It’s hard to say, because I’m not on the pitch or close and I haven’t seen the footage.
“But for anyone who knows Neymar, he never joked with words like that, and I’m sure he didn’t.”
Neymar’s future at the Parc des Princes has come under the spotlight on several occasions since moving to the club in a world record transfer deal in 2017, with his return to Barcelona or perhaps even the Catalan side’s arch-rivals. Real Madrid reported as the most likely destination for the Brazilian star.
Marquinhos hopes his compatriot will stay at PSG, and also wants to see Kylian Mbappe commit to his long-term future with the Ligue 1 champions.
“I’m selfish about this. I want them to stay forever,” he admits.
“I have renewed and I hope my team-mates also stay. But each has a purpose and a life of its own.
“But of course I want Neymar and Mbappe to stay.”
PSG are back in action on Sunday, when they travel Reims in their latest Ligue 1 match.
