LAHORE: Defending champions Karachi Kings will face Quetta Gladiators in the opening match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 20, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday.
Gaddafi Lahore Stadium and Karachi National Stadium are the two venues that host the sixth edition of the PSL which is scheduled to have 34 games to ensure the health and safety of all participants amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The final of the 30-day tournament will be played on March 22 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. For the first time since 2017, the finals of the event will be held in Lahore.
The first phase of the event will be played at the National Stadium and the second at Gaddafi’s Stadium. Day and night matches have been evenly distributed among all teams.
Any decision regarding audience attendance will be taken a few days before the event, and government recommendations regarding this will be considered.
The 2021 Pakistan Super League HBL sports period will start on 15 February. For foreign players participating in the league, the corona virus test result must be negative before arriving in Karachi.
On arrival in Pakistan, they will undergo two more tests, after which they will be allowed to start training.
Those who test positive will be sent into isolation for five days. So far, two more tests for the coronavirus will be carried out, the first on the first day of isolation and the second on the fourth day.
Babar Hamid, Commercial Director said: “We are pleased to announce the schedule for our tent event – the HBL Pakistan Super League, which for the second consecutive season will be held in Pakistan as a whole.
“We had to make a tough decision to limit matches to Karachi and Lahore, and this decision was taken in the greater interest of the event, the participants and the country. We want to limit the unnecessary exposure of the players as much as possible so that the players can operate in a safe and healthy environment which, in turn, will allow them to continue to entertain fans and followers with their talents, skills and gaming expertise. .
“The crowds at Multan and Rawalpindi were amazing last year and we are very grateful to them for their contribution in making HBL PSL 2020 a huge success. I am sure when life returns to normal both cities will have their share of the match as PCB remains committed and determined to host HBL PSL matches in as many venues as possible.
“Apart from competitors, PCB also has a duty to protect the audience. Although we have several options on the table PCB will continue to monitor the situation and delay decisions as late as possible on crowd presence as for PCB health and lives are of the utmost importance. “
