Facebook will experience twitch and YouTube with its own game application | Instant News

With so many people switch to video games for the time being they were just found trapped indoors, Facebook released a dedicated mobile application for Facebook Gaming for months ahead of schedule to try to capitalize on the wave of viewers that has recently been seen on other live streaming platforms such as Twitch and YouTube.

The free application launches on Monday on the Google Play Store, New York Times reports, and the appropriate iOS version is set to follow after “Apple agrees.” While Facebook’s latest foray into the $ 160 billion gaming industry was originally planned to debut in June, the company decided to increase its release date after noting “a huge increase in gaming during quarantine,” Fidji Simo, head of Facebook Gaming applications, said the Times.

“Investing in games in general has become a priority for us because we see games as a form of entertainment that really connects people,” Simo said. “It’s entertainment that is not just a form of passive consumption but entertainment that is interactive and unites people.”

Nowadays, you can watch and stream games through the Facebook core application, but even with Facebook 2.5 billion monthly users, still struggling to compete with the biggest landscape streaming competitor. Based on StreamlabsFacebook Gaming is number three in the total hours watched after Google Gaming YouTube and Amazon Twitch. This is even further behind in terms of the amount of content offered, with Facebook Gaming averaging less than 5 percent of the 121.4 million hours flowing on Twitch so far this year.

Through the release of this application, Facebook hopes to carve a bigger footing by focusing on content that is often overlooked on this platform: mobile gaming. It’s a smart move that utilizes large Facebook mobile visitors and avoids a tug of war more than the leading PCs and consoles, What is that happened between Twitch and Microsoft’s competitor, Mixer.

Users will be able to stream their play sessions through the application by simply clicking the “Go Live” button which “allows users to upload streaming other mobile games on the same device by pressing just a few buttons,” per report. Other platforms require additional third-party software to stream mobile games, because they are primarily designed to support players on PC, their main user base.

“We don’t want to be a background window in the Chrome tab when someone does homework or does something else,” Facebook vice president for games, Vivek Sharma, told the Times. “With cellular, if you have an application open and you use the application, it’s in the foreground. You can’t do anything else on your cellphone, and it is very powerful. ”

The same Facebook Game Stream can also be broadcast to the user’s personal Facebook page to attract viewers both inside and outside the application. At present, the company tells the Times that the application will not display advertisements, and revenue will instead depend on commissions from the extension of its “stars” system, the name Facebook Gaming for real-world cash that can be watched by viewers. (in the same vein as the “Twitch” bit).
