PHOENIX – Following the opening of several outdoor shopping centers in the Phoenix area last week, indoor malls and shopping centers will be fully reopened on Saturday, May 16, one day after the order to stay home ended.

While the malls themselves will be reopened, it is up to each shop to decide when they want to reopen and what safety protocols to implement. Some malls have a list of stores that have reopened on their website, although buyers are also advised to contact certain stores directly to check hours.

Over the past two weeks, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has begun to lift restrictions on industries ordered to shut down in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. Until now, hospitals can do elective surgery; retail stores, barbers, hair salons, and nail salons, given the green light to reopen; the restaurant reopens their dining room; and recently, swimming pools, gymnasiums, massage therapists, and theaters were given permission to open.

This shopping center will reopen on Saturday:

Simon Properties Group, which manages Arizona Mills in Tempe and Phoenix Premium Outlets in Chandler, said on its website that they will implement a number of changes in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, including requiring mall employees to wear masks and undergo temperature checks before their shifts; reducing the entrance and number of people allowed in each location, including in the food court; and clean the high touch area.

Macerich, which operates a number of malls and shopping centers in the Valley, including Scottsdale Fashion Square and Chandler Fashion Center, said it follows the CDC’s recommended guidelines, including cleaning high-touch areas, encouraging social distance, and installing more signage about COVID -19 prevention.

Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix reopened on May 9, according to its website.
