Brazil bans Ford from carrying out mass layoffs when it closes factories | Instant News

Two Brazilian labor judges have banned US carmaker Ford from carrying out mass layoffs for closing its manufacturing facilities in the country.

The two decisions were issued on Friday evening, according to Brazil’s Agencia news agency.

The ban is in effect until negotiations with the union are successful, according to the report.

Judges at Taubate in Sao Paulo state and in Camacari in Bahia state imposed fines of up to 100,000 reais (about $ 18,626) per employee affected by the violation. Ford can appeal the ban.

The carmaker recently announced it would stop production in Brazil and close its three remaining plants there, after more than 100 years of operation in the country.

Ford ever consecutive losses in recent years, which would lead to a pretax deduction of about $ 4.1 billion, the company said in January.

Chief executive Jim Farley said it was a “very difficult but necessary” decision.

Brazil’s Ministry of Economy said it regretted Ford’s decision, which it said went against the strong recovery seen in most of the country’s industrial sectors.

Thousands of employees were affected, according to reports on Brazil’s G1 news website.

Factories in Camacari and Taubate will close soon, while production at the Troller subsidiary in Horizonte in Ceara state will resume for several months.

Switzerland- Alpine resorts are offering mass Covid tests to contain new outbreaks | Instant News

(MENAFN – Swissinfo) The canton of Vaud in western Switzerland has been the latest to launch mass Covid-19 testing, with pilot schemes at its three largest ski resorts.

Starting Friday, the canton is offering free voluntary testing ahead of a week of school holidays starting February 20. The campaign started at the Villars-sur-Ollon resort (which by 16:00 had carried out nearly 400 tests, four of which were positive), and will then come to Les Diablerets and Leysin. The test is offered to anyone over 12 years of age, including non-residents.

The aim is to ‘save the end of the ski season’, according to Vaud authorities, and to avoid clusters of coronavirus such as the one in Verbier in December. Verbier is in the neighboring canton of Valais, which is expected to take part in the test.

Switzerland has kept its ski resorts open despite the pandemic and this has caused tensions with several neighboring countries.

The PDM artificial alliance was rejected by the masses: Pervez Khattak

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Defense Minister Pervez Khattak said on Saturday that the artificial alliance of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had been rejected by the masses because of its negative and self-interest politics and would soon meet its logical goal.

He addressed a public meeting in Manki Sharif in the Nowshera district where renowned political worker Zainullah along with a group of supporters and friends joined Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf and expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Defense Minister Pervez Khattak.

Dr Imran Khattak, Chair of the National Assembly Committee on Energy and Natural Resources was also present at the occasion.

The defense minister said an artificial PDM alliance had been formed by rejected political parties to protect their corruption.

He said the people knew who had plundered the state treasury for personal gain in the past and who put Pakistan on the path to progress and development today.

He said the country fell into heavy loans and gas, the price of electricity rose because of the wrong policies of the PPP and PML-N regimes. He said today’s rise in prices was due to wrong policies in the past.

He said the PDM leadership was in a state of panic and this unnatural political-religious alliance would soon meet its logical goal.

The Defense Minister said when the PTI Government took over, the country’s total reserves were only $ 5 billion and currently stands at around $ 20 billion due to our prudent economic and pro-export policies.

Under Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said the country’s exports had increased and industrial production was moving up.

He said the government would complete a five-year term and elections would be held in 2023. He said Senate elections through an open voting procedure would end the horse trade.

Pervez Khattak said local governments in the district, tehsils and village councils would be formed and a draft for amendments to the 2019 LG Amended Act would soon be passed from the Assembly.

He said that Nowshera Regency was the stronghold of the PTI and all political parties, if united, could not even beat it. He said every village council and union would get gas facilities by 2023 in Nowshera.

Switzerland asks for mass testing for coronavirus | Instant News

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the Swiss Federal Council announced further steps to follow the spread of COVID-19, promoting mass testing in the region.

From February 1, monitoring of asymptomatic individuals will be approved and the costs will be borne by the federal government, the Council said at a news conference it shared hope that agencies would monitor on a mass scale such as “local outbreaks of infection can be contained in the first place.”

“It is believed that more than half of COVID-19 infections are transmitted by people who are asymptomatic,” the Council statement said.

“By expanding the testing strategy, the government hopes that local virus outbreaks, for example in schools, can be identified and treated early,” he said.

After being rejected by the masses, Opp turned to Parliament: Shibli | Instant News

ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Senator Shibli Faraz said on Monday that the opposition alliance – the Democratic Movement of Pakistan (PDM) is divided, pursuing conflicting narratives.

His statement, in a tweet, looms clear behind the conflicting statements and approaches of the PDM component party leaders. A few days ago, Bilawal Bhutto proposed moving a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the National Assembly. He said this clearly shows that the alliance of the opposition parties is shattered. The minister added that the opposition parties had taken to the streets to deceive the masses but now they turned to Parliament after being rejected by the masses. He said the opposition party would not submit their resignation and would also participate in the elections. In a tweet, the minister indicated that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had insisted on filing a vote of no-confidence, Ahsan Iqbal had reservations on this strategy and PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz had stressed the long march. .

However, the proposal received a cold response from PML-N’s senior leader Ahsan Iqbal, who said that Bilawal might file a vote of no confidence against the prime minister, if he had the required number in the DPR.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said the PDM would go on a long march if the prime minister did not step down by January 31. Ahsan Iqbal has referred to the humiliating defeat of the joint opposition in connection with a vote of no confidence in the incumbent Senate Chair. Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani in 2019, when despite having about 64 members on his side, the opposition could not win to send the chairperson packing, by secret ballot. Once again, regarding the much-talked about mass resignation option, the two major parties – PML-N and PPP – are polar opposites and internally they face splits also among their MPs. Speaking to private news channels, Senator Shibli Faraz on Monday said the opposition is not interested in strengthening democracy or nation-building because it only has a passion for power. The minister said the opposition parties knew very well that Prime Minister Imran Khan was the only political figure, who would not compromise on corruption, adding that the major opposition parties had engaged in massive corruption practices during their tenure and registered cases against each other.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that opposition lawmakers would not submit a resignation, adding that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was “going through a critical phase”.

Speaking with journalists on Monday in the federal capital, the PTI minister said PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s call for resignation would be ignored and underlined that she failed to even convince her brother-in-law to renounce Assembly membership. Insulting the leaders of the Opposition, Fawad Chaudhry further added that the talk of resigning over the past three months had “turned into a joke.” Fawad said the members of the Opposition would “continue to work” at the same salary and that the masses were not interested in “jalsas staged by the PDM”. He said he had advised Federal Minister for Information Technology Syed Aminul Haq to distribute tablets among opposition leaders “so that they can broadcast their speeches on social media”.
