MERIDIAN, Mississippi (OMCK) – The city of Meridian has lifted a public safety curfew enacted earlier this week. However, a security and travel advisory is issued for residents of the area. People are urged to limit travel and stay off roads due to extremely dangerous conditions, including downed power lines, trees and falling branches. Public works crews are clearing trees and debris and power crews are working to restore power. Drivers are urged to avoid these areas so that utility workers can continue to restore service as soon as possible. Residents are encouraged to use extreme caution during this time. - 13 years ago today Brazil shocked the US
- Marta scored two magical goals in the 2007 China semifinals
- He called it his best performance and Brazilian
Nobody remembers who came second.
The often repeated quote made Marta chuckle.
“Years later everyone always wanted to talk to me about 2007,” he said last year. “In Brazil people always talk about the ’82 national team, and they also talk about our team in 2007.
“The football we played, the goals we scored. I’m proud that we play beautiful football and people remember us. “
The pinnacle of Marta and Brazil came 13 years ago today at the FIFA ™ Women’s World Cup. The United States is unbeaten in 51 matches. They have won 18 wins over Brazil – including both at the Women’s World Cup, 5-0 and 2-0 – and just one defeat. They boast of Christie Rampone, Aly Wagner, Carli Lloyd, Kristine Lilly, Heather O’Reilly and Abby Wambach.
Yet Formiga, Cristiane, Marta and Co produced an earth-shaking performance and a 4-0 win, which remains the heaviest defeat in USWNT history.
“I scored what I think was the best goal of my career that day, and I remember it like yesterday,” Marta said of his second goal. “Every time I talk about the semifinals, I remember the fourth goal. I produced a very special game. It was the most special moment for me.
“I thought it was a perfect performance. We are not afraid of the United States. We go out and play our own games. “
“You can’t count on a player like Marta,” said Ryan. The things he can do with the ball, that’s indescribable. Lloyd added: “He lifted the stadium, all by himself”.
Raising the stadium is something Marta always remembers.
“It’s the World Cup that I remember the most,” he said of China 2007. “The way people welcomed women’s football there. People are crazy about him, the stadium is full. They were shouting our names. Truly extraordinary.
“We didn’t win titles, but we made history. I’m happy to remember that tournament. Beautiful, beautiful. The game against the United States was not only my best game as a player; I think it was Brazil’s best performance at the World Cup.”
