Pakistan calls for increased international oversight, the United Nations for the human rights situation of IOJ & K | Instant News

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has called for increased international monitoring and ongoing reporting by the United Nations about the human rights crisis in India occupied by Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ & K) to save the lives, dignity and freedom of the people of Kashmir.

Foreign Office Spokesman Aisha Farooqui told a weekly press conference on Thursday that ongoing brutality against innocent people in Kashmir had entered its 346th day after India revoked the special status of the disputed territory on August 5 last year.

He said Kashmir faced the illegal occupation of Indian security forces for more than seven decades.

He mentioned that recently, Indian occupation forces during their follow-up operations called guard and martyrdom operations killed eight Kashmiris including Idrees Ahmad Bhat, Ajaz Ahmad, Muahmmad Usman, Saifullah Mir, Zahid Ahmad and Waleed Ahmad in the Kupwara, Baramulla and Baramulla districts and Islamabad at IOJ & K.

The spokesman said the UN human rights machine in recent months has highlighted India’s non-compliance with its international human rights obligations.

“Through some official communications, nearly a dozen UN Special Rapporteurs have raised serious concerns over India’s consistent pattern of arbitrary arrest, detention, torture, corporal punishment, extrajudicial killings, and physical and digital locking in occupied Jammu & Kashmir.”

On the 89th Kashmir Marty Day, he said the government and people of Pakistan joined Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and around the world to pay homage to 22 innocent innocent Kashmiris who defended the truth and justice against the tyranny of the troops Dogra in 1931.

Farooqui further said that throughout the world, conferences, webinars, and peaceful paths were held to draw the attention of the world’s conscience towards a long struggle for the basic rights of the IOJ & K people.

During the past week, he said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held telephone talks with the Chinese Foreign Minister and Board Members and Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation.

“In this interaction, the foreign minister shared our deep concern over the situation at IOJ & K and underlined the importance of urgent measures by the international community to help overcome this difficult situation,” he said.

Other issues of mutual concern were also discussed including the Covid-19 pandemic, regional security in South Asia, the suspension of Pakistan International Airline flights to the European Union and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s call for a Global Debt Relief Initiative for developing countries.

The spokesman said on July 7, 2020, the third round of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Deputy Foreign Minister Strategic Dialogue was held via video link, where Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui, Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Mirwais Nab and Foreign Minister Sohail Mahmood helped lead the dialogue.

“The three parties held in-depth discussions and reached consensus on cooperation against Covid-19, the Afghan peace and reconciliation process, and trilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen communication and coordination and enhance mutual trust and cooperation under the mechanism of cooperation trilateral. “

Farooqui said the foreign minister also held a video conference with the Spanish Foreign Secretary on 7 July 2020.

They exchanged views on various subjects including responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, bilateral relations and close collaboration in multi-lateral forums and regional situations.

The two sides also reviewed the situation in Afghanistan and progress in the Afghan peace process.

Regarding the repatriation of stranded Pakistanis, a spokesman for the FO said the Foreign Ministry and overseas missions continue to facilitate and assist fellow countrymen around the world.

On July 14, he said, 221,279 Pakistanis had been repatriated from various parts of the world.
