LAHORE: PML-N Vice President and senior leader of the Opposition Maryam Nawaz made her anger and frustration with the former PPP coalition partner clear-cut on Saturday, publicly denouncing the latter for ‘sacrificing everything’ for ‘a small and insignificant office’.

The day before, the PPP – apparently unable to reach a peaceful resolution to a dispute with the other Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) parties over who should get the seat of opposition Senate leader – had rounded up 30 senators and stepped forward to secure a position for it. candidate, Yousaf Raza Gillani, without PDM’s blessing.

The number consists of 21 senators from the PPP itself, 2 senators from the Awami National Party, 1 senator from Jamaat-i-Islami, 2 independents from FATA and a group of 4 ‘independents’ led by Senator Dilawar Khan who broke away from the Balochistan Awami Party for support Gillani’s candidacy.

“I am happy that they are now calling the PDM narrative, the narrative of Maryam Nawaz,” said Maryam Nawaz at the start of her press conference.

“Our narrative is out there for the whole country to see. It is Nawaz Sharif’s narrative; it is the narrative of democracy, law and the Constitution,” he said.

“I’m glad the lines that look have been drawn,” he said, referring to events that took place on Friday.

“On the one hand there are those who sacrifice their own welfare for the public and their right to rule, and do not want to show any weakness – on the other hand there are those who have sacrificed all their principles for the slightest gain; who are willing to give up the law and the Constitution. “

Maryam went on to claim that the PML-N candidate for opposition leader in the Senate, Azam Nazeer Tarar, had received a phone call from Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani offering the support of three or four BAP senators for his candidacy.
