KARACHI: Multan team captain Sultan Shan Masood said on Friday that his squad is in perfect shape and will feature in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) qualifier against Karachi Kings here at the National Stadium on Saturday (today).
“The players are in great shape. We’ve looked at their fitness and skill levels during training matches. We’ve played intensive cricket coming from England to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Some of our players have played the IPL and CPL, so we have no problems, “said Shan Masood at a virtual press conference.
Shan said if the players are able to carry out their plan solidly then it will pay off. “The king of Karachi is strong. In my opinion, Kings have the best hitters in the world. They have Imad Wasim as a good leader and one of the best bowling players in this format. Their foreign and local bowling players, including Amir, I think they have a very strong lineup. We will try to carry out our plan and InsyaAllah it will produce good results, ”said Shan.
Shan said he was happy with his team’s performance in the training game. “The first thing is that nobody is at a disadvantage in this as all the teams play after the break. The good thing is we got some practice sessions and then two practice games and a good performance was seen, “said Shan, opener for the Pakistan Left-Handed Test.
“Our local players have played domestic cricket,” said Shan.
He says that they will go with their bowling even against Multan. “We’ll see the goal. We always try to choose a balanced bowling department that can cover all aspects. “In the match situation the T20 changes quickly so you have to have different options in bowling and we will try our best to do a balanced bowling attack,” said Shan.
Multan Sultan lost two of their overseas players a few days ago when James Vince from England and Mahmudullah from Bangladesh returned positive Covid-19 tests. But Shan is happy that they have had pretty good replacements in Joe Denly from England and Brendan Taylor from Zimbabwe.
“For sure we will miss James Vince because he has been our main hitter. We are also pleased that Mahmudul should come as Moeen Ali’s replacement. Obviously we had a little bit of trouble when we were looking for a replacement, “said Shan.
“Taylor was in Pakistan and played the full series and he was doing well. Denly has been a part of British whiteball cricket for the last two years. He has shown his qualities in the PSL-3 while playing for Karachi Kings. He was with Multan in PSL-4 but due to national duty he could not join. We are very happy with our replacement, ”he said. “We also tied up Adam Lyth, the left-handed opening batsman from Yorkshire. Our troops are very calm, ”said Shan.
“PSL is very competitive. It’s not easy to separate the four teams, “he said.
“I don’t think I have to motivate my kids. They know the PSL trophy is at stake. We’ve never qualified for the playoffs, so the motivation is always there, “he said.
“As far as my performances are concerned, so I have a decent group stage. I was lucky enough to play the National T20 too. If you have played 12 games, you can familiarize yourself with the format. “As a unit we have several other players playing in the domestic T20 tournament and they have brought some good performances to carry over to the playoffs,” said Shan.
“We have played a fair amount of cricket in Karachi and we know the conditions. In the PSL group stage we played the match on that day and we are very happy with our preparation. Yesterday Usman Qadir and Rohail Nazir finished the training game which is a sign of enthusiasm and it shows that your entire army is ready, ”said Shan.
