Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte promised on Sunday that Rome will prioritize climate and energy, transitioning to a carbon neutral future and a circular economy next year when Italy will take over the G20’s annual rotating presidency.
“As president of the G20, Italy will focus on the climate energy linkage and on how to achieve a rapid transition to a carbon neutral future, and the idea of a circular economy concept based on the Saudi proposal for a carbon-free economy. Our platform has a role to play before this transition,” said Conte. in a pre-recorded message at the G20 Summit side event on protecting the planet.
The prime minister added that there was “no way out” from reducing emissions and called for all efforts to focus on fighting climate change. Conte also said that Italy will promote the spread of clean and efficient technology during his presidency.
