CCTV footage has been released showing the car of prominent cleric Maulana Adil being followed by a man on a motorcycle wearing a black helmet.
He helped two other target killers shoot him when his vehicle stopped outside a shopping mall in the Shah Faisal Colon area of Karachi last night. Geo News reported Sunday.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) revealed that the recording shows the suspect following Maulana Adil’s car. This is the same person, according to CTD, who helped the two attackers escape after the murder.
After following Maulana Adil’s car, the suspect then turned around, got back into the vehicle and helped the two attackers escape after committing the murder.
Police have started an investigation into the murder of Maulana Adil. Investigations revealed, according to CTD officials, that the religious scholar’s car was parked outside a sweet shop in the Shah Faisal Karachi area when the motorcycle suspect opened fire on him.
Maulana Adil arrived at Darul-Uloom Korangi, where he performed the Asr prayer and left after Maghrib prayer at 7:20 p.m. At 7:36 p.m., his car stopped outside a sweet shop where he was killed.
The two suspects who were after him were seen from CCTV footage at 7:38 p.m. and at 7:40 p.m. the suspect opened fire on his vehicle.
Police officers said that three people including Maulana Adil, his driver and a man named Umair were present in the vehicle when the defendant opened fire.

Meanwhile, a senior official meeting has been held under the leadership of the Karachi IG Supplement in which the district police, CTD and intelligence officers will participate.
Police officials said the meeting would decide whether to register the case with the CTD or the police station where the killings were committed.
According to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), only cases related to police killings are registered with the CTD while other targeted murder cases are registered with the police station. However, another target killing investigation was later transferred to CTD.
Police also said that the five bullets found at the scene had been handed over to CTD, but the final process would begin after contact with the family.
