The 72-inch Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) water line that exploded at the Dhabeji Pump station two days ago due to a suspension of electricity supply by K-Electric (KE) was repaired on Thursday, a KWSB statement said.
According to a press statement from the water board, after a power failure, the 72-inch water channel cracked due to underdeveloped water pressure.
At the direction of the regional government minister Nasir Hussain Shah, work to begin repairing immediately, said a press statement.
Because of the repair work, 215 million gallons of water could not be supplied to the city on Thursday, he added.
According to the details distributed by the water board, the water line broke in the early hours of Wednesday around 2am. When the power supply is suspended, water flows backward under pressure where the waterline cracks at two different points, he said.
KWSB Managing Director Asadullah, at the direction of the minister, immediately ordered relevant officials to repair the channel, he said.
“The KWSB engineers arrived at the site early in the morning with heavy machinery and started repair work. The drains are drained, after which they are repaired. “
Electricity, according to a water council press statement, resumed after five and a half hours at around 8am, after which the water supply through other waterways continued to the city.
The MD water board, meanwhile, calls on the people of Karachi to use water with caution. “The water supply has now returned from the damaged lane too.” The water council press statement said it would take two to three days to fill the gap in supply, so residents must use water with caution.
In a press statement, KE said it continues to provide uninterrupted power supplies to all KWSB strategic locations, including pumping stations in Dhabeji, Gharo and Pipri. According to a spokesman for the EC, the power outage in Dhabeji was restored “on time and the electric utility maintenance and repair team was immediately mobilized for this”.
“In addition, the EC wants to reiterate that all the main water pump stations of the KWSB are freed from warehouses for the greater benefit of the Karachi community,” the statement added.
“Over the years, electricity utilities have also invested significantly in providing primary and backup feeder facilities available for Dhabeji pump stations. This also includes the addition / enhancement of Power Transformers at Dhabeji, Gharo, KDA (NEK) & RECP (Pipri) network stations.
In addition to ensuring a smooth power supply to all KWSB strategic installations, KE also extends all possible technical support and maintains close coordination with the KWSB team at all times. “
