Saim Shazli won the Sindh Amateur Golf title | Instant News


KARACHI: Saim Shazli who was a smash hit on Sunday added another feather to his hat when he won the amateur title of the 20th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship here at Karachi Golf Club.

Saim, who won the CAS Amateur title earlier this season, scored 74 points to win the title with two strokes.

It was a series of steady turns from burly Saim that helped him win the coveted trophy in front of the duo Yashal Shah and Arsalan Shikoh. Saim, who had a score of 75, 73, 74, finished with three days on aggregate 222.

Yashal interpreted 73 in the final round following scores of 79 and 72 to finish as runners-up. Arsalan got 76 cards in the final round. Both Yashal and Arsalan finished on a similar aggregate of 224 with the first taking second place based on better last day’s scores. In fourth place was overnight leader Hamza Shikoh (225) while his older brother Omar Shikoh finished in 226. Saad Habib (230) won the net title ahead of Zunair Khan and was followed by national amateur champion Omar Khalid, who ruled 74 in the round final.

Khurram Khan was crowned senior Sindh champion winning the title with a gross score of 150 (73 and 77). He won by eight strokes. In second place was Khalid J Siddiqui while Azhar Abbas finished second (gross). Asad IA Khan won the senior category (net) while Zillay Nawab was the runner-up.

In the women’s category, Daniya Syed recorded a landslide victory when she posted a final score of 75 to win the Sindh women’s title by a large margin of six strokes. Aania Farooq was the runner-up. Naghmana Atif won the net category, while Nida Arfeen was the runner-up.

Major Rizwan Farooq won the veteran title (gross) while Rehan Mirza was the runner-up. Group captain Aftab A Khan was the winner (net) while Zaheer A Chaudhry was the runner-up. Asghar Ali won the Super Veteran title while Captain M Saleem was the runner-up. The junior title (gross) was won by Hamza Satti, while the clean champion was won by Ayyan Ali.

Sindh governor Imran Ismail was the main guest at the prize distribution ceremony. He announced plans to revive the Sindh Governors Cup and added that he wanted the tournament to become Pakistan’s biggest golf event. He urged the Sindh Golf Association (SGA) to make plans to revive the tournament in the near future by bringing in “ten million rupees” in coffers.

KARACHI: Sindh Golf Association (SGA) on Thursday announced a strong 12-man squad for the Inter Association Cup which will be played alongside the 60th Pakistan National Amateur Golf Championship.

Asad IA Khan, President of SGA, appointed two four-member amateur teams (Sindh A and Sindh B) and a four-member senior team for the Inter Association Trophy which will be contested during the National Championships to be played here at Karachi Golf Club from 31 December to January 3rd.

The teams were selected after a two-day trial playing over 36 holes in the lush green KGC pitch on Wednesday and Thursday.

The trial turned out to be a rigorous contest in which 50 players took part.

In the finals on Thursday, the hugely successful Saim played an impressive par 72 to top the trials with two days of 144 on aggregate.

In second place is 16-year-old schoolgirl Omar Khalid, who followed her 77th opening day with an incredible turn of 72 which included birdies on holes 1 and 7. In third place together were Mansoor Teli (72) and Arsalan Shikoh (74). The quartet Saim, Omar, Mansoor and Arsalan will form team A Sindh. Mansoor, a prominent amateur from KGC, was appointed team captain.

The Sindh B Team included Omar Shikoh, MA Mannan, Abdullah Adil and Yashal Shah. Mannan will be the team captain.

In the senior category, former international Khurram Khan finished leading with a score of 77, 77. In second place was Saleem Adil with a score of 72 and 84. He was followed by Khalid Jamil Siddiqui and Asad IA Khan. The quartet will represent Sindh in the Inter Association Senior Trophy.

“We have some very good players in all three Sindh teams,” said Asad following the announcement of the Sindh squad for the Nationals. “I am confident that they will take full advantage of the home advantage and give their best in the national team.” Karachi is hosting the National Amateur for the first time in two decades.

KARACHI: Saim Shazli scratched the par 72 round to lead two strokes in the two-day trial organized by the Sindh Golf Association (SGA) to select the Sindh team ahead of the 60th Pakistan National Amateur Golf Championship.

The smash hit Saim was in full flow on the first day of testing here at Karachi Golf Club as he started with back-to-back birdies on the front nine finishing it on 35.His score of nine backs was 37.

Trials were conducted by SGA to select two teams of four (Sindh A and Sindh B) to represent the province in the Inter Association Amateur Golf Championship which will take place alongside the National Championship to be played at Karachi Golf Club from December 31 to January 3. The two-day Inter-Association Trophy will be played on the first two days of the National Championship.

Meanwhile on the first day of testing, the brothers Omar and Arsalan Shikoh were second and third. Omar got 74 cards while Arsalan scored 76. Also in third place together is young player Yashal Shah (76). In fourth place is Omar Khalid who is 16 years old (77). Followed by Mansoor Teli (78), Abdullah Adil (78), Ansar Mahmood (79), MA Mannan (80) and Junaid Irfan (80).

Meanwhile, in the trials of the Inter Association of Seniors Championship trials, Salim Adil had a stunning 72 shot to take a five-shot lead. In second place is former Pakistan international Khurram Khan (77). He was followed by Khalid Jamil Siddiqui (78), Shahid Azim Khan (78) and Asad IA Khan (80). The exams will be finished today.
