Cairo [Egypt]April 12 (ANI): The African Football Confederation (CAF) on Sunday postponed its upcoming semi-final second leg of the African Champions League due to a coronavirus pandemic.
“Given the growing concerns and natural developments at COVID-19 amid closure in most countries, the CAF Emergency Committee has decided to postpone the next match until further notice,” read a statement.
Both legs are initially scheduled for May 1-3 and May 8-10. In the semifinal dispute between Moroccan and Egyptian clubs, Raja Casablanca will meet Zamalek while Wydad Casablanca will face a record eight-time Al Ahly winner.
Also postponed is the African Confederations Cup semifinal, which will be played at the same time. FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers scheduled for May 1-3 and May 15-17 are also postponed.
“Meanwhile, the CAF is closely monitoring the situation and working with relevant authorities such as the World Health Organization on the effects of viruses on the continent,” the statement said. (ANI)
