Formula One and Indycar BBS GmbH supplier filed for bankruptcy protection in Germany today for the third time in 13 years, ahead of the 50th anniversary.

It once dominated the wheels of high-end performance cars, including the Ferrari F40, Lexus IS-F and a countless number of Porsches.
The market slowdown that came with the Covid-19 pandemic forced the BBS to close its two production plants, causing bankruptcy filings in court at Rottweil (yes, like a dog).
“Because it can be traced to the current difficult market environment in the automotive branch, the BBS situation worsened further due to Corona (sic) -Lockdown which caused a temporary halt to production at both BBS factories,” the company statement read.
“However, the main message we want to convey to you is that BBS production continues to run – the supply of all our OE and AM customers with BBS wheels is secured!
“Before bankruptcy, BBS had embarked on an extensive turnaround strategy for the entire company. This new strategy is based on the BBS AM wheel as the focal point will be continued under the guidance of the bankrupt administrator. “
One of its two administrators, Thomas Oberle, was here before with BBS, who had been appointed as administrator of BBS International GmbH in 2011, before BBS became BBS GmbH.

McLaren boss Zak Brown believes Daniel Ricciardo is now confident of the team’s progress and future prospects, two years after rejecting it.
The Woking team identified Ricciardo, the seven-time grand prix winner, as the man who replaced Carlos Sainz so clearly that the Spaniard might move to Ferrari.
McLaren held talks with Ricciardo when the Australian was last in the final year of the contract two years ago, but Australia instead chose to move to Renault from Red Bull. At the end of the 2018 season, Renault finished in promising fourth place with points almost double that of McLaren.
But after a turnaround in their respective fates in 2019, when McLaren took the fourth on a comfortable margin and signed several key agreements – including the supply of Mercedes engines for 2021 – Brown believed Ricciardo had bought into their long-term plans.
“Getting a grand prix winner like Daniel is clearly a sign that we are going in the right direction,” Brown, McLaren’s chief executive told Sky Sports. “He believes that.
“We chased him a few years ago before he decided not to join us. I have talked to him ever since and he said ‘you came out of a very bad season’ – which made him politely – ‘but there is also a lot of this that we will do to rebuild the teams’.

McLaren is excited about Ricciardo and Norris

There was the latest drama at the Virtual Spanish GP as a final penalty for Charles Leclerc gave George Russell an unlikely victory over his F1 rivals.
The pair struggled throughout the online race Sunday night around the Barcelona Circuit de Catalunya but it looks like Leclerc, the star of Ferrari, will seal another eSports victory when Russell is given a three-second penalty for cutting corners.
But when Russell tried to build a sizeable gap above his rival, Leclerc was slapped with the same penalty in the second round to give the young Briton his first Virtual GP victory – in dramatic circumstances.
“I am very happy,” said Russell, who was impressed in his rookie season with defender Williams last season. “I’m not used to this victory thing – I haven’t done it in a long time. I really miss it.
“When I passed Charles and I knew I was sentenced to 3s, I was very angry. But when the radio message came at the end … I almost wet myself!”
Leclerc, who was denied his third win in the series, commented: “It’s a shame. But George is very fast, I knew it from the start.”
Alex Albon, Leclerc’s main rival in the previous two races for Red Bull, also looked competing, but chose a different strategy from Russell and Leclerc with two steps and was fourth – behind former F1 driver Esteban Gutierrez.
Teammate at Williams, Nicholas Latifi, is fifth, with Sky F1 driver Anthony Davidson sixth – ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi of Alfa Romeo.
Thibaut Courtois is the fastest among footballers – Real Madrid goalkeeper rising in 12th place – but only two places ahead of Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero on his Virtual F1 debut.
Golfer Ian Poulter and Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo supported the pitch, with Lando Norris retiring from the race completely.
The Story of Russell vs Leclerc
