KARACHI: Pakistani Rangers Sindh conducted search operations in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur prisons, a paramilitary force spokesman said on Saturday, ARY News reported.
Different wings of Rangers participated in the operation and searched all barracks and cells.
Television, fans, refrigerators, air conditioners, gold chains, nail clippers and other prohibited items were confiscated by paramilitary forces.
The operation, which lasted for hours, was carried out over the threat of terrorist attacks on the prisons mentioned above, said a spokesman for Rangers.
In a report released by the Punjab prison department in July 2019, around 7,364 cellphones were recovered from prisoners in Punjab prisons.
During operations in the Punjab prison, 7,346 cellphones, 2,271 sim cards and 1,627 chargers recovered from prisoners’ possession.
The report revealed that the Lahore region had topped the list where 3,262 phones had been recovered. 1,488 and 1,212 mobile phones were found respectively in the Rawalpindi and Faisalabad regions.
From the Sargodha area, 573 phones were temporarily arrested from Multan prison, 279 of them.
304 and 246 each recovered from the Bahawalpur and Sahiwal regions.
