Star

This game will remain etched in David Luiz’s memory. The Brazilian defender claims the Man of the Match award not only for his brilliant defensive performance, but also for his luxurious free kick that made Ospina grip the thin air as it flew past him to the upper right corner. In a wild celebration that had been lost in World Cup knowledge, Luiz ran to the corner flag before running and kicking him. Speaking of the attack, Luiz said: “I have been training for a year with Willian at Chelsea, so I’m happy to score today. It’s wonderful to see a ball fly like that into the goal, because it’s difficult for the keeper.”

What they say

“We didn’t concede many goals before the match, but we let one in early. We improved in the second half when we started moving the ball faster and Brazil started to worry. While their second goal kept us off guard, we continued to fight and approach leveling.”
Jose Pekerman, Colombian coach

“The team spent a lot of energy in the Chile match but recovered well, as you saw in the first round. If we manage to score the second goal, it will make us a little nervous. We lost focus because three of their attackers and James fell into space. We fought hard, ran a lot and finally won. “
Luiz Felipe Scolari, Brazilian coach

“We had a difficult victory, which was normal at this stage of the tournament. We knew Colombia would give us a hard time given their good performance here. The level out there was high, and it was a beautiful match.”
Ramires, Brazilian midfielder
