KARACHI: Former Pakistani versatile player Shahid Afridi will lead the Galle Gladiator franchise in the inaugural Premier League Twenty20 tournament hit by the coronavirus to be played in Hambantota, Sri Lanka from November 26 to December 16.

Afridi was appointed on Saturday as captain of the Galle Gladiator team, brought in by Pakistani businessman Nadeem Omar who also owns the popular Quetta Gladiator franchise in the Pakistani Super League.

Initially, Omar had announced Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of the Galle Gladiators but he had to change his mind after the hitting goalkeeper was named in Pakistan’s squad for a tour of New Zealand.
