University of Glasgow’s BeepTrace Contact Tracking System Proposed for Development and Testing at the University of Glasgow, to be Integrated with the World Contact Platform, Part of a Future Joint Venture or License Agreement
OCEANSIDE, CA / ACCESSWIRE / 27 October 2020 / Contakt LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Contakt World Technologies Corp. in British Columbia, Canada (“Contakt World,” “Contakt,” or “Company”), a technology company modernizing the contact tracing process, announced today that it has entered into research agreements and commercial options with the University of Glasgow in Scotland, United Kingdom (“University”), to develop BeepTrace, an early stage proposed mobile-based system for digital contact tracing based on blockchain. Prior to making a deal with Contakt World, the founding team published a white paper BeepTrace: Privacy Preservation Contact Tracking with Blockchain support for the COVID-19 Pandemic and More. BeepTrace is expected to be an active solution for the wider Contakt World product portfolio.
Like the Temporary Contakt World patent filed on March 31, 2020 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office – BeepTrace seeks to use blockchain to reduce the sensitivity of user identification and location information, assigning each user a randomly generated anonymous ID number, which changes regularly to prevent unauthorized tracking or personal identification. This approach allows for greater security and privacy with the added advantage of being battery friendly and globally accessible mobile devices. This system is a project led by Dr. Lei Zhang at Glasgow University’s James Watt School of Engineering, with other authors and collaborators from the School including Mr. Hao Xu, Dr. Paulo Valente Klaine, Dr. Oluwakayode Onireti, Dr. Yao Sun and Professor Muhammad Imran.
Based on the BeepTrace white paper and additional input from Contakt World, the University will create an initial mobile application for end users and a blockchain database to process and log user information. Applications will then be tested in three different use cases on campus with staff and students at the University of Glasgow, after which Contakt World will have the right to negotiate a licensing or joint venture agreement. In addition, Contakt World will have the opportunity to expand its relationship with the University where additional testing of Contakt World solutions can be carried out within the University, which has yet to be determined.
“The proposed BeepTrace solution, which is also supported by the Contakt World suite of technologies and integrated with the Contakt World platform, provides a compelling use case for the University of Glasgow and the possible future commercial relationships in Europe,” said Justin Beck, Chief Executive Officer. from Contakt World. “We hope the end of this project will be a joint venture or exclusive license of their results, perhaps giving Contakt World access to the European market using the BeepTrace solution, overlaid with additional solutions from Contakt World. We look forward to working closely with Dr. Zhang and the team at The University of Glasgow and confident BeepTrace can diversify the product offering for Contakt World for our healthcare, jurisdictional, B2B and B2I agency customers. “
Dr. Zhang added, “Addressing public privacy concerns is a key requirement for successful contact tracing. With BeepTrace, which is enabled by Contakt World through funding, additional support, and planned integration, users’ personal data is always stored securely, and the app only notifies users themselves that they have been in contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19. We chose to work with Contakt World because their unique technology also leverages secure databases to protect user privacy and encourage wider adoption. hope to continue this project to a testing point. on the University of Glasgow campus, and the next commercial opportunity with their team. “
Professor Muhammad Imran, head of the University’s Communications, Sensing and Imaging Research Group, and a collaborator on the project, said: “The preservation of privacy frameworks has broader implications for the future collection and processing of sensitive and personal data – with applications in several areas at outside the health care domain. Our collaborations with industrial and commercial partners, starting with Contakt World, aim to find a commercially viable privacy preservation technology framework by solving technical problems through research and innovation. “
