Watch Apple’s M1 MacBook Pro phase out the 2020 Intel MacBook Pro in the speed test | Instant News

Apple’s first batch of M1 Macs surpassed people’s expectations, their functions were more powerful than anyone thought, and easily defeated many other Intel Macs that Apple continued to sell. We have seen endless speed tests, but we think we should compare the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro with the model it replaces, the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro with 1.4GHz quad-core Core i5 processor, Intel Iris Plus Graphics . 645 and 8GB RAM.

The previous generation MacBook Pro was just released in May 2020, but it is outdated and not as good as Apple’s new M1 model, as our extensive speed tests have proven.

Geekbench score

The M1 MacBook Pro is a basic model with 8GB of storage space, an M1 chip with 8-core CPU and GPU, and a 256GB SSD, with a single-core Geekbench score of 1722 and a multi-core score of 7535.

In comparison, our Intel MacBook Pro has a single-core score of 871 and a multi-core score of 3786, so the performance is almost twice that of the latter. OpenCL scores also show significant differences, with M1 score of 19305 and Intel chip score of 6962.

SSD speed

The M1 MacBook Pro has a faster SSD, and in our test, we saw a read speed of 2800MB/s and a write speed of 2300MB/s. Using the SSD in the Intel MacBook Pro, we saw a read speed of 1600MB/s and a write speed of 1100MB/s. Apple said that due to the new SSD controller integrated in the M1 chip, the SSD can reach a sequential read speed of up to 3.3GB/s.

file transfer

When transferring files larger than 40GB, M1 completed the task in 27 seconds, while the Intel Mac took 90 seconds. The transfer speed was the same at first, but soon after, the Intel Mac fell out of fashion.

4K video export

Exporting 10 minutes of 4K video from Final Cut Pro requires 4 minutes and 53 seconds for the M1 MacBook Pro, and 6 minutes and 47 seconds for the Intel MacBook Pro. Except for the faster transmission speed on the M1 Mac, the fan did not appear at all, while the fan for the Intel Mac was roaring.

Startup and shutdown

With the new instant wake-up function, the startup speed of the M1 MacBook Pro is significantly faster, and it can run normally when you open the cover. Shutdown is also faster.

Label test

We opened twelve YouTube tabs in Safari on both Macs, and the CPU load on the M1 Mac was much lower. The M1 Mac was able to play every video without any problems, and the fan never even kicked in, but the Intel Mac struggled and the fan reached its maximum speed.

Application test

We opened each application in the Applications folder on both Macs, and there were about 50 applications. The M1 performed well, but the Intel Mac lags behind and cannot open everything. It took longer to open all the applications of the Intel version, especially Final Cut Pro.

On M1 Mac, the process of opening Mission Control every time you open a single application is seamless, but Intel Mac can’t handle it completely, and there are many lags.

Testing of individual applications is closer. Open Safari, map, Apple musicAnd Final Cut Pro, but Intel Mac is not too far away.

in conclusion

During our benchmark and speed tests, the fan of the M1 MacBook Pro was never turned on, so if you choose one of the new MacBook Pro models, you can operate silently under almost all tasks.of MacBook Air No fans at all, Mac mini Performance is similar to MacBook Pro.

In addition to speed, the battery life also left a deep impression on us. The MacBook Pro will be used for an hour or two the first time it is used, and then it will be used for most of the next day for an hour. Even in all tests, we did not need to plug in the power to charge it.

M1 MacBook Pro beats 2020 Intel models It is also faster In terms of CPU performance, it is better than the 2019 high-end 16-inch MacBook Pro models. If you plan to buy a new Mac, then, if you can, it may be worth buying a Mac with an M1 chip.Apple plans to update the entire product line Apple Silicon, This process takes about two years.

Rumor has it that some of the next Macs that get the M1 chip will include iMac (There are 24-inch models in production) and 16-inch MacBook Pro.
