Microsoft has begun public testing of its new Edge Chromium-based browser on the Xbox console. Xbox testers in the Alpha Skip-Ahead group can now access the new Microsoft Edge on Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X consoles. Although there is still a lack of full mouse and keyboard support, the browser can be used with the Xbox controller, although there are some issues in this initial test version.
The Chromium browser on Xbox is an enhancement for users who wish to access websites through its console. Due to enhanced compatibility with Chromium, Edge will now also provide access to Google Stadia streaming services. It should also improve compatibility with browser-based games and services provided over the Internet (such as Skype or Discord).
This early test version seems to include the same sync engine used in Edge, and supports extensions, vertical tabs, collections, and most Edge desktop features.
Windows desktop support for the existing old version of Microsoft Edge will end on March 9. Microsoft’s testing of this updated browser shows that it will be released on all Xbox consoles soon.
