After E3 is canceled because corona virus, ESA considered holding it as a digital event but in the end cancel the plan and submit individual announcements to publishers. A total of 14 North American and Japanese publishers have now announced their own event, called New Game + Expo, which will take place in June.
The announcement promises a row of 40 games, including announcements of new games and live gameplay demos. The publisher list includes names like Aksys, Koei Tecmo, Sega, and WayForward. You can see the complete list of publishers below.
The New Game + Expo will be aired through Twitch on June 23, 2020 at 8 am PT / 11 AM ET, and then trailers and highlights will appear on the YouTube expo channel. In a statement, NGPX organizer Adam Johnson implied this could continue for years to come.
“New Game + Expo is a coalition of publishers and grassroots developers,” he said in the announcement. “Organizing together for the first time, we hope that the fans have fun when we see the upcoming games for 2020 and beyond!”
E3 is not the only conference affected by the COVID pandemic. Gamescom has canceled the event at the venue and move to everything that is digital, and shift the date in the process. The GDC, which usually occurs in spring, was first tentatively moved to last summer’s date also moved to digital shows.
GameSpot is planning its own summer showcase Play For All, which will function as a center for game announcements and charity relief efforts. Sega is one of the GameSpot partners for the event.
