Ed Boon explains the approach to the list for Mortal Kombat 11 | Instant News

Mortal Kombat 11 has many fan favorites, but there are many who haven’t made a decision. Some people might think that is nonsense when it comes to character inclusion, but actually this is a process that is taken very seriously.

In an interview with Game Informer, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon opened up about why some characters were chosen this time, and why others were left seated. See the full response below.

I think over the years, we have around 80 Mortal Kombat characters in several capacities. The reason we added Fujin was because he hadn’t been seen in the game for a long time. To be honest, I think a number of decent players would be like, “Who is Fujin?” If we do Mileena, Kitana, Jade, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Rain, you know, all these characters, I think it will become stale after a while. We need to give character breaks once in a while. Then, when they returned, that was a big problem. This is new, so we just spread it. Fujin is one of the things our designer likes, “Hey, I think we can do something really cool with this character with the wind and run on the wind and do things with his sword.” When designers say they can make something very unique with gameplay, it is very difficult in terms of the decision on who to bring back.
