Did you know that the US Postal Service has a mail tracking tool that you can use to help identify your IRS check stimulus? Was called Informed Shipment, a free service automatically sends you digital pictures of your letters, including the actual envelope containing your check. This will also let you know when your letter is on its way to your home. Although USPS will not tell you why your stimulus payment hasn’t arrived, this can help you keep an eye on the delivery date.

Informed shipments are not honed to track stimulus checks only. This is a pre-existing tool that documents all your letters, which of course, includes your money from the government. There are some limitations, so you might want to get started track your payment use the IRS online portal first. This will give you a rough estimate of when your stimulus money will arrive. After that, the Informed Delivery verifies that the check has actually been processed by USPS and is on its way. You can cancel at any time.

A word before you begin. IRS online tracking tool, called Get My Payment (remember, this is separate from the USPS service), has been known to return error messages that are difficult to know. Do I have to get my stimulus check in the mail?

This service is available for many residential and private mailbox addresses but not for businesses. It also will not work for some multi-unit buildings where the Postal Service has not yet identified each unit.

1 Head to Postal Service Delivery Information Page and tap Register for free button.

2 Enter your mailing address, and tap Continue.

If service is available, you can continue to set up an account.

Prepare the Informed Shipping service

Setting up your account is very easy.

1 At the Postal Service Informed Shipping Page, tap Register for free.

2 After you enter your mailing address and confirm it will work with the service, you must accept the terms and conditions and tap Continue.

3 On the next page, choose your username, password and security question. Then, enter your contact information and tap Continue.

4 On the next page, you need to verify your identity. Tap Verify online identity if you want to receive a verification code on your cellphone or tap Request invitation code by mail if you want the Postal Service to send you the code. If there is no suitable method for you, you can also be given the option to visit the post office to verify your identity directly.

It takes three business days to activate your account after you set it up.
