Like it Assassin’s Creed Odyssey before that, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will allow players to choose to play as a male or female version of the main character, Eivor. In a new video, narrative director Darby McDevitt says you will get the full story now whatever you choose to play.
“We want our character, Eivor, to be in a coherent space and have a coherent personality,” McDevitt said. “So that when you reach the end of our game, no matter what path you have traveled through our game, you always feel that Eivor is Eivor.”
“Whether you choose men or women, and both options are valid in our game, you will always feel that Eivor is coherent and complete,” he added. “And I think the results will speak for themselves. There are many cool mysteries and intrigues around Eivor’s character, and we cannot wait for you to dive into that mystery.”
In Odyssey, the two main characters – Kassandra and Alexios – are siblings. However, it remains to be seen, exactly, how Valhalla will handle explaining the knowledge behind the two Eivors. Both Eivor male and female are canon.
Valhalla will be released later this year as a launch title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. This game will also be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and PC.
Like many Assassin’s Creed games, Valhalla is based on real history, but historians at Ubisoft have to do less digging to build narratives from the dark ages. At the same time, Ubisoft said that don’t care about the comparison with God of War, although the same Norse settings. For more about Valhalla, watch us pre-order guide.
