NEW YORK – Elijas Valentine and his family are happy to be back to watch a movie on the big screen. He says it’s better than being stuck at home. What you need to know Theaters outside New York City reopened on Friday Governor Cuomo says theaters can restart screening at 25% capacity with a limit of 50 people per screen Some city residents traveled to Westchester County to bring movies back to the big screen “It’s different because at home you can’t do anything.” All we can do is sit down and watch TV, but in movie theaters we can eat popcorn and watch movies, ”the young moviegoer explained. But the people of the Bronx were not at their local theater. Instead, they traveled to Yonkers to see Robert De Niro in “The War With Grandpa”. Governor Andrew Cuomo authorized out-of-town theaters to reopen Friday at 25% capacity with a limit of 50 people per screen. The cinephile family therefore made the trip to Westchester County. “It’s super embarrassing. Instead of having something that is a five or two minute drive away, I have to travel 15 to 20 minutes for it, ”said Elijas’ mother Amanda. Kathleen Morales and her boyfriend are also from the Bronx. Before the pandemic, they saw a movie once a week. After watching the theaters precautions, they bought tickets to see “Tenet,” and basically got the theater to themselves. “We’re delighted to be back, and I actually prefer it to be a little empty.” Although the smell of movie theater popcorn remains the same, some things in the movie theater are different. There are fewer visits to allow for cleanings in between, masks must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking, and seats are allocated to ensure social distancing. But moviegoers say it’s good to be back. “Just wait and wait. I had to go to Colorado to watch movies. So I’m glad we can go with my son and have family experiences outside and get out of the house. There’s no timeline for when the city’s theaters will be allowed to reopen, so any New Yorker looking to catch a movie will have to make the trip to Westchester or Long Island. —— Did you know that you can now watch, read and stay informed with NY1 whenever and wherever you want?
