The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has extended its “unlimited” global travel restrictions. The British people are encouraged to avoid international travel that is not important for the future, setting new suggestions.
An initial call not to start a global journey was made until April 16, but when the coronavirus outbreak got worse, the guidelines have changed.
“We now suggest that all global travel is not important – without limits,” said a video statement released by FCO. “The situation is changing rapidly. Tourists can face severe disruptions and not be able to return to England.”
Some travel companies sell flight and vacation packages outside the early April deadline in the hope that the situation will improve. If the company where you book the trip is canceled, then you are entitled to a full refund.
The FCO made the decision because of “unprecedented international border closures and other restrictions. All countries can limit travel without notice.”
To change or cancel your travel plans, follow these steps:
- contact your airline, travel company, shipping lines or other transportation and accommodation providers
- contact your insurance provider
If you need to travel for important reasons, the government has issued the following suggestion: “If your trip is important, make sure you have the appropriate insurance for overseas travel, and buy it as soon as you book your trip. You should check your travel insurance details to find out what they cover, and contact your insurance provider if you have questions. You may need to consider specialist policies. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are protected. “
