Provost and Executive Vice President Kenneth G. Furton shared a message with all university teaching staff on April 7.
We understand that global involvement is an important part of your success and that this is a challenging time professionally and personally. However, these extreme steps are needed to keep everyone in our university community safe and sound.
Our University’s Emergency Operations Center and Policy Group continues to actively monitor the COVID-19 virus pandemic and are considering information from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Department of Foreign Affairs, World Health Organization (WHO) as well as our own experts.
Given the growing health and safety issues, travel restrictions for Teaching staff and FIU staff and FIU visitors extended as follows:
All upcoming domestic and international university trips by Teaching staff and FIU staff suspended until July 1, 2020. Only trips associated with scientific contributions to reduce the COVID-19 pandemic can be granted an exception by sending a petition via email to [email protected] for evaluation by the International Travel Committee (ITC). The ITC will evaluate the risks associated with certain domestic or international trips and make recommendations for my consideration.
Please note that members of our teaching staff and staff who travel without institutional authorization make personal trips and therefore need to take advantage of appropriate leave. Personal travel means that the teaching staff or staff will travel at their own risk and will accept full responsibilities and obligations. FIU will not be responsible for any consequences or liability as a result of the personal journey.
We ask you not to make new commitments for university business trips (booking trips for plane tickets, hotels, etc.) Until further notice.
Pre-approved Travel Authorization (TAR) requests for domestic or international travel must be properly closed to ensure that we keep accurate travel records. Please see Office of Travel Controllers and Fee Renewal in terms of travel adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
International Bachelor and Delegation Visits
The suspension for undergraduate visits and international delegations to FIU has also been extended until July 1, 2020. Please notify each international scholar or delegation liaison regarding this institutional limitation. Please stay in touch with your Liaison HR department about canceling / delaying visiting bachelor visits.
If conditions improve significantly during this limited period, we will re-evaluate and possibly adjust this suspension. Please stay abreast of the latest developments by visiting Coronavirus FIU webpage regularly.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
