Jitendra Rathod, a cardiac surgeon from India, died of corona virus in Britain on Tuesday. He is an associate specialist in cardio-thoracic surgery at the University Hospital of Wales.
Cardiff Health Council and Vale University said he died in the general intensive care ward after a positive test for Covid-19. “Jitu has worked in the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery since the mid-1990s and returned to UHW in 2006 after a brief stint abroad,” the council said in a tribute on its website.
The health board also said that Rathod was “a very dedicated surgeon who cared deeply about his patients”. “He is very compassionate and a wonderful person. His commitment to specialization is very good. We will miss him a lot. “
Rathod studied medicine at Bombay University in 1977, moved to England and worked for years in the National Health Service, Hindustan Times reported.
The official death toll from coronavirus in the UK currently reaches 5,373, and last week the health minister said the most deadly peak projected was Easter Sunday, April 12. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday brought to the intensive care unit for worsening symptoms of coronavirus.
