Amritsar (Punjab) [India]May 4 (ANI): About 270 Indian non-residents (NRI) left for Britain from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Monday.
“The flight will take off at 02:15 and we provide drinks for the passengers here. We would like to thank the Indian authorities and Airways authorities for evacuating the NRI,” Davinder Singh, Volunteer, British High Commission said.
Paramjeet Singh, an NRI told ANI, “We came here on March 4 and we are scheduled to return on March 23. We did face a big problem but the Indian Government helped us, we want to thank them and the British Government too.” Harkeval Dhillon, another NRI said that he was scheduled to return on April 6 but was stranded here in the middle of the lockdown.
“I would recommend everyone to stay home and stay safe. Don’t risk anything and don’t take this disease lightly,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, around 270 British (UK) citizens departed for their country on a special Qatar Airways flight from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport here. (ANI)
