MOUNT EDEN, Bronx – A NYPD sergeant was seriously injured when he was hit by a car which fled the scene in the Bronx Tuesday morning amid overnight turmoil in the region, police said.

According to the authorities, the officer was hit by a black sedan at around 12:45 on Walton Street, near East 170th Street in the Mount Eden section of the region.

The sergeant was rushed to the nearest hospital and registered in serious condition, officials said.

No arrests were made because police continued to search for the driver of the car after escaping from the scene.

NYPD officers were in the area due to reports of robberies and destruction in the area, but it was not clear whether the people in the car were involved in this other crime.

The incident came as chaos, looting and destruction spread throughout the city last night even though it was 11 pm curfew Monday night.
